An Atlanta Tradition
CNN - over 3 years
Every year on Labor Day weekend, thousands of people arrive in Downtown Atlanta for a weekend of celebrity panels, costuming, parties and more. One of many panels scheduled this weekend featured actors from Defiance on SyFy. Jaime Murray and Grant Bowler were overwhelmed by the fan response of the new show based on the popular video game. A contingent of costumers dressed as Stahma Tarr, Amanda and Kenya Rosewater, Irisa and E-Rep Guard were the talk of the panel for quite a while and had Murray giving a sly wink to Stahma when asked about the provocative clothing choices of her character. Other sights to see on the first day included a Cyberman from Doctor Who, Ruby Rhod and VIP Stewardess from Fifth Element, and an astronaut. With 3 more days of the show left, I am excited to see what tomorrow will bring!

Huffington Post - almost 4 years
LOS ANGELES — Earth is recovering from an apocalyptic event, alien races cooperate warily, a wise-cracking outsider suddenly finds himself shouldering new responsibilities. Yes, the world of "Defiance" features familiar sci-fi touchstones, but it's taken an ambitious approach to how you can experience them: Through both a weekly TV series and an online-only video game. Set in 2046 on a "terraformed" Earth where humans live alongside seven alien species, the series premiering Monday displays a space Western vibe with bar brawls, interspecies politics and love, plus actors familiar to genre fans like Julie Benz and Jaime Murray. The already-released game, a multiplayer third-person shooter, has plenty of guns to upgrade, quests for ...

At YouTube, Even Stars Agree to Working-Class Wages
Wall Street Journal - almost 5 years
By John Jannarone and Christopher S. Stewart With YouTube joining the battle for video advertising dollars, start-up culture has crept into the traditional television world. Even red-carpet regulars are agreeing to working-class wages. Courtesy of WIGS Caitlin Gerard, Stephen Moyer, and Jaime Murray on the series ‘Jan’ One of the video site’s new original-content channels, WIGS, is paying everyone working on set-level production of its programs—including actors and crew—as little as $15 an hour based on a per-diem rate, say several people who work for the channel. WIGS, which will offer scripted dramatic series and short films about women, aims to maintain film-quality production standards. But with only modest funding from YouTube—it is giving channels only up to a few million dollars each, far less than the cost of a typical TV production—it is impossible to pay average industry salaries. The surprise is that WIGS still managed to compile a star-studded cast, includ ...
