Wooden spoon for new boys Kirkby
Dispatch - almost 2 years
Kirkby Athletic finished their inaugural season holding the wooden spoon, despite completing the double at the expense of Rainworth Rangers who were the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline. Rangers’ marksmen were Tom Barnes and Alan Welsh who netted a double. Ravenshead followed up their midweek 3-0 defeat of Southwell City III with a similar scoreline against FC Coopers. Daniel Phillips netted in both fixtures with Rob Houghton also on the mark against City, who also provided an own goal to complete the tally, whilst Adam Martin and veteran Ross Hardwick netted against Coopers. Another side completing their first season were AFC Farnsfield who were 4-0 down against Woodborough United in the first 20 minutes before matching their opponents for the rest of the game. Boro’s goals were shared between Nyem Sukh, Ricki Thompson, Darryl Clayton and Gary Armstrong. The Trent Vineyard v Beeston OBA clash mirrored the 1-1 score line between the two sides achieved a month earlier. This time TV’s ...

Clipstone’s title hopes rocked at Eccleshill, but Cobras still on promotion course
Dispatch - almost 2 years
Promotion is still in Clipstone’s own hands after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Eccleshill United as the Toolstation NCEL Division One season approaches an exciting end. But dropping two points has rocked the Cobras’ hopes of the title, a late winner ruled out for offside to rub salt into the wounds. Before this game, it was thought that four wins out of the last six league games would be enough to end up in the top two and gain promotion. With third placed AFC Emley drawing away at fourth-placed Shirebook Town, the only thing that changed at the top was Pontefract Colleries opening a five point gap to Clipstone, with the Cobras only having one game in hand. Clipstone knew this would be a tough game after facing Eccleshill only a few weeks ago at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium in a gruelling 2-0 victory for Clipstone. The weather conditions had turned from beautiful sunshine to a howling strong wind blowing from penalty area to penalty area which did not help produce a great spectacle for ...

Nick gives Bosham the edge to beat Faygate
Bognor Regis Observer - over 4 years
Wins for Bosham and Newtown Villa and a thrilling draw for Wittering feature in our latest round-up from the West Sussex League. Bosham 1 Faygate Utd 0 Premier division A solitary goal from Nick Edgington early in the second half was enough for the leaders to suffer their first defeat of the season and enable Bosham to close the gap at the top to eight points with three games in hand. Both defences were strong, meaning chances were few and far between. Josh Maitland, on his debut for Bosham, looked sharp on his first outing and showed good pace and agility to work space down the right and place teasing balls into the box. The first real effort on goal came for Ben Jenner for the Yellows close to the half hour, when he got free of his marker in the box and shot low from close range only for Simon Hasted to save well. Bosham upped the tempo and James Wilson beat the offside trap but was unable to put the ball pastd Lee Amos in the Faygate goal. Leigh Thompson tried his luck ...
