One Of The Most Affordable Options For Retirement In The Caribbean
Huffington Post - 5 months
An Affordable Piece Of Paradise In The Caribbean I am a big fan of little Belize. I've been recommending Ambergris Caye, Belize's Caribbean face, for years and, more recently, the country's Cayo District for its back-to-basics self-resilient lifestyle. Another part of this country is worth a look, too. Northern Belize is a remote region of tropical rivers, hardwood forests, traditional farms, sleepy rural villages, and breezy Caribbean seashores. This is a refreshingly off-the-radar place where residents embrace a simple, friendly, by-the-sea lifestyle. It is also the best value destination in Belize and one of the most affordable options for retirement in the Caribbean. Northern Belize is an area of about 2,500 square miles and the point where the Caribbean and Central America meet. As that geographic juxtaposition suggests, the population is diverse, and it is becoming more so as North American retirees are beginning to recognize what this overlooked part of Belize has t ...

Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock Sound Off On Black Hippy's XXL Cover
MTV News - over 3 years
Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul will be the first to tell you that Kendrick Lamar deserves every bit of his success, but the Black Hippy rappers also want to make it clear that that the group equally encompasses all four members. After their recent XXL cover story was revealed, Ab-Soul took to Twitter to express his displeasure with the cover line "With Kendrick Lamar and Black Hippy," and Q echoes the same sentiments. "That's so disrespectful," Schoolboy Q told MTV News. "We didn't go into that shoot saying 'this is Kendrick with Black Hippy.' We went in there and said, 'This is a Black Hippy shoot,' so we expect a Black Hippy shoot." Hear Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock sound off in the clip above.

good kid, m.A.A.d city, One Year Later
Huffington Post - over 3 years
It's hard to believe that it has been 365 days since Compton's own Kendrick Lamar leapt from parade watcher to Hip Hop's Grand Marshall of the moment. This is not to say that Overly Dedicated, Section .80 or even his earlier K.Dot material was not significant, but in today's Hip Hop a hot mixtape is similar to being ranked high in a preseason poll, a nice accomplishment but nothing to hang a banner over. Even with the buzz Kendrick's underground music created and the numerous co-signs of music legends like Snoop, Dr. Dre, and Lil Wayne it hard to believe that anyone foresaw the impact that good kid, m.A.A.d city (GKMC) would have on music and beyond. In 12 interwoven tracks (15 on the deluxe version) Kendrick takes us on a day in the life journey of a teenage Black male in Compton, Ca. Fraught with moments of hope, conflict, struggle, and reflection the album was the rare work that was as popular as it was substantive. Kendrick's Sherane became just as emblematic of an urban experie ...

Tech N9ne & Krizz Kaliko, The Independent Kings
All Hip Hop - over 3 years
With the exception of Busta Rhymes and Spliff Starr, you will not find a more dynamic stage duo in all of Hip-Hop than Strange Music’s own Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko. Most hype-men usually serve as that annoying extra mouth-piece on stage that you silently wish would go away, but Krizz Kaliko has found that unique and extraordinary chemistry with Tech N9ne that gives an added element of power and energy to a live Tech N9ne show – so much that the two can actually be mistaken as a group rather than a solo act. Last week at Rock the Bells 2013, Tech and Krizz once again set it off and even made it hard for the remaining headlining acts to follow them. If you’ve never seen them perform “Einstein” live, I highly suggest that you put attending a Tech N9ne show on your list of things to do. And that shouldn’t be hard for you to do since they travel damn near everywhere practically all year around. Before they tore up the Rock the Bells stage at the San Manuel Amphitheater in Southern Calif ...

Schoolboy Q Thinks He 'Should've Won' Hottest MC, Black Hippy Laughs
MTV News - almost 4 years
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway There’s no questioning the loyalty that exists within Black Hippy, but when it comes to MC’in, the California rap collective refuse to bow down to anyone-- not even each other. So how did Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q react to Kendrick Lamar’s "Hottest MC" win on Thursday night? Exactly how you'd expect! "I’m better than all of them, I should’ve won," Schoolboy Q told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway after he and his band of brothers learned that K-Dot topped the "Hottest MC in the Game VIII" list. "I’m better than him," the "Hands on the Wheel" spitter said jokingly trying to hold back his laughter. Jay Rock on the other hand was amazed that Kendrick snagged the #1 spot, though he credited the win to a great work ethic in the studio. "Me and Dot had this talk a long time ago. We used to sit in the studio just trying to figure it out," he said. "All of us, not just me and Dot, but Soul, Q. We were just tryin’ to ...

Rap Genius: Album Review: Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city
Huffington Post - over 4 years
By Aarica West Kendrick Lamar has been the exception to the rule in many regards throughout his life. While the divorce rate is steadily on the rise, Lamar was privileged to have grown up with both a mother and a father in his household. Living in the rough, gang-ridden city of Compton, he chose not to be involved in gangs -- a choice that usually leaves one dead. And in a rap game where real emcees find it hard to sell, the powerful lyricist steadfastly wins over the hearts of rap fans. good kid, m.A.A.d city marks Lamar's first release on a major label, Interscope Records and Aftermath Entertainment. Whereas other rappers falter when converting to major label companies, Dr. Dre gave Lamar the green light to keep doing what he knows how to do best; last year with the help of two other West Coast legends, Snoop Dogg and The Game, Dr. Dre passed the torch to Lamar naming him the heir to the throne of West Coast rap. On GKMC, Lamar's vernacular remains rich with swagger ...

The Best Rap Album Of The Year
Huffington Post - over 4 years
-- Kendrick Lamar, "good kid, m.A.A.d city" (Interscope Records) Kendrick Lamar is an up-and-coming rapper hailing from Los Angeles with a reputation already built through the underground scene as one of hip-hop's best lyricists. With the backing of Dr. Dre, the socially conscious emcee continues to enhance that stature on "good kid, m.A.A.d city," a cohesive album filled with classic gems. He takes his storytelling ability to a higher level on his major label debut, a follow-up to his 2011 independent release, "Section.80," that received positive reviews. On his new offering, Lamar's rap cadences are finely in sync with the stellar production by Pharrell, Tha Bizness, Hit-Boy, Just Blaze and others. The album is an open book of soulful stories that are intertwined through entertaining and thought-provoking skits, with Lamar telling several compelling moments of his upbringing in Compton, the gritty city southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Lamar recalls when ...
