Wes Anderson Officially Announces New Movie 'Isle Of Dogs' With Edward Norton
Huffington Post - 2 months
Wes Anderson officially announced the title for his upcoming stop-motion animation film: “Isle of Dogs.”  On Tuesday, the director released a video announcement about the film on Vimeo, which features a special appearance by one of its stars, Edward Norton. Mumblings about the project began popping up last year, when Jeff Goldblum let slip that he’d be lending his voice to the film. Along with Norton and Goldblum, the movie boasts a massive cast including Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Bryan Cranston, Frances McDormand, Greta Gerwig, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama and even Yoko Ono, among others. Filming for the project is currently underway in England, but to satisfy our curiosities, Anderson also released a tiny glimpse at Norton’s canine character, Rex.  The best part, though, is that you have a chance to be in the film. Sure, it’s probably not a huge chance, but it’s technically possible.  As part of his announcement, Anderson teamed up with Crowdwis ...

What Cronenberg's Movie The Fly Can Teach Us About Trigger Warnings
Huffington Post - 5 months
There's this scene in David Cronenberg's movie The Fly that's pretty hard to watch. Actually, there are a lot of scenes in that movie that are pretty hard to watch. That's kind of the point of the movie, which is also kind of the point of this essay, but first, let's describe the scene in question in order to get to the essay in question. Before we get started, I should mention that I teach an undergraduate class focusing on the psychological, cultural and neurobiological aspects of horror films. The scene I want to talk about triggered a discussion among some of my students about whether there ought to be a "trigger warning" before we discuss the movie in class. In the scene that is the subject of this essay and also the subject of the discussion I had with my students, the unfortunate scientist (played by Jeff Goldblum) is well on his way to becoming a fly-human hybrid and engages in about fifteen straight hours of sexual activity with his increasingly uncomfortable lo ...

Hotel Guest Wants Jeff Goldblum Photos (And That's What He Gets)
Huffington Post - 5 months
When Seth Freedland reserved a room at the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica, California, he made one teeny-weeny little request: Fill the room with Jeff Goldblum photos. Why Goldblum and not another “Jurassic Park” star like, say, Wayne Knight? “Jeff Goldblum is my girlfriend’s celebrity crush,” Freedland told The Huffington Post by email. “Specifically, she’s a big fan of ‘Independence Day’-era ‘heroic Goldblum.’ I’m more a ‘Big Chill’ Goldblum man myself, but you really can’t go wrong.” Freedland, a speechwriter at Nike, was half-joking when he made the bizarre request for a “few framed photos of Jeff Goldblum in the room” and didn’t know the hotel would take it seriously. But when he and girlfriend Amy Marsh checked into the room on Saturday, they saw it blooming with Goldblum pics: There were photos of the actor in the bathroom: By the phone: By the other phone: And, yes, Marsh was delighted. “I think it’s fair to describe her as shocked,” ...

Chris Hemsworth Helped Baby Bro Liam Audition For 'Independence Day: Resurgence'
Huffington Post - 8 months
Aussie brothers Liam and Chris Hemsworth are just like you. They do normal brotherly things like attend movie premieres, snap pictures of each other at the beach and even help one another audition for big-budget movies. That's how Liam landed the part of Jake Morrison in the sequel to 1996's Independence Day, Independence Day: Resurgence. Liam along with Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Jessie T. Usher and the film's Director Roland Emmerich stopped by AOL BUILD on June 14th to talk all things Resurgence, including the audition process for the newbies. For the younger Hemsworth the audition process started two years ago when he met with Emmerich. "He told me his vision for this film," Liam said, "and I was very excited by that." Two months later, Emmerich told Liam to "send a couple of tapes in" from a few different scenes. Liam enlisted the help of his older brother Chris, who he was staying with at the time, and the rest is history. "He played Patricia," Emme ...

Samsung justifies its touchscreen fridge with talking chocolate syrup and maimed cupcakes
Yahoo News - 10 months
"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could," Jeff Goldblum famously said in Jurassic Park, "that they didn't stop to think if they should." Yes, he was talking about cloned dinosaurs at the time, but the charge could also be leveled at the Samsung scientists who designed a fridge with a huge touchscreen in the front. Samsung showed off the device at CES earlier this year, but only now seems to be justifying why it exists — with talking bottles of chocolate syrup. The company's new ad stars real-life celebrity couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, showing them pack away their groceries in Samsung's Family Hub refrigerator.

Jeff Goldblum Is Hollywood's Most Underrated Style Icon
Huffington Post - about 1 year
For Jeff Goldblum, aging is a mind game. The 63-year-old has come a long way since being a grotesque scientist in "The Fly" (a character that the New York Times described as a "creature so repulsive he makes the monster in 'Aliens' look like Grandma in a Norman Rockwell painting"). He then morphed into a sex symbol in "Jurassic Park" (who the NYT described as a rare "glamorous mathematician"), and TV's quirkiest prime-time detective ("Raines" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent").  Through all that time, it's an understatement to say the man has aged gracefully, balancing self-deprecating charm with philosophical charisma -- a career scene-thief whose varied rap sheet includes "Will & Grace," "Portlandia," "Captain Planet," and "Inside Amy Schumer." In this month's issue of GQ (promoting the "Independence Day" sequel), Goldblum shares his secret to aging well: love thyself. Hair dye will turn you into a corpse. My hair used to be dark, and now it's salt-and-pepper. ...

In case you hadn't heard, Will Smith's cigar-smoking, alien-killing alter ego Steven Hiller won't appear in the sequel to the 1996 action classic "Independence Day," because, well ... he's dead.  Smith was noticeably absent from the trailer for the film's sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence," which debuted back in December. The clip left many fans wondering what happened to the famed protagonist of the original film. According to the sequel's promotional website, Col. Hiller died in 2007 between the events of the first and second films. A headline from a fake broadcast on the website reads, "Alien Tech Malfunction Kills Col. Hiller." For the first time, the actor is commenting on his decision to exit the franchise and his reaction upon hearing his character's untimely fate.  "I was working on 'Suicide Squad' during that time," he told Yahoo Movies. “['Independence Day' director] Roland [Emmerich] and I had talked about it.
