Random Flicks Worth Checking Out This Week
Huffington Post - about 1 month
***PLEASE POST IN HUFFINGTON POST CANADA. THANKS!!*** What we've got here is a list of good and bad blockbusters, MOWs, B-movies, and everything in between. And they're decidedly, unabashedly random. Why not roll the dice this week? Casino Royale Where to find it: Hulu The cast: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Mads Mikkelsen, Jeffrey Wright The synopsis: "Armed with a license to kill, Secret Agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007 and must defeat a weapons dealer in a high stakes game of poker at Casino Royale." Think of Casino Royale as the Batman Begins of the James Bond franchise. Producers finally decided to strip away the gloss, the gadgets, and the myriad catch-phrases. End result: a badass Bond who's seriously cool to watch. Best of all, he's not annoyingly superhuman like other Bonds I could name (I'm looking at you, Roger Moore). So anyway, this is the James Bond movie that started it all! Even though, you know, it only came out a few years ago. Hey, ...

The Dubai Film Festival Diaries: A Classy End To A Life-Changing Event
Huffington Post - 2 months
OK, I'll just preface this by saying that were the majority of film reviews written by women, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would never have been made. I'm probably a Star Trek girl through and through because I like a little reflection to go along with my entertainment. Not a whole lot of references to things I know nothing about nor want to particularly find out. But more on the film that closed this year's Dubai International Film Festival later in the blog. The reason that DIFF exists and just celebrated its glorious thirteenth edition is primarily to showcase and support the ever-growing Arab cinema industry. Yet we all know that a festival without international stars, great world premieres and exclusive parties would not be on anyone's radar for very long. And this year, DIFF brought to Dubai Hollywood royalty like Andie MacDowell and Samuel L. Jackson, HBO's Westworld stars Jeffrey Wright and Luke Hemsworth, filmmaker extraordinaire Asif Kapadia, world-class composer Gabriel Y ...

What to Watch This Weekend: Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, HBO's Confirmation, and the Season Finales of Beowulf, Vinyl, and Girls
Yahoo News - 10 months
What to watch on Friday, April 15... NEXT: Saturday, April 16 | Sunday, April 17 SEASON 2 PREMIERE, 12:01am Pacific, Netflix Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Kimmy is back in all her indefatigable spirit and '90s-centric point of reference, this season joined by guest stars including Anna Camp, David Cross, Jeff Goldblum, Amy Sedaris, creator Tina Fey, and many more. All 13 episodes stream today (you can read our review here). 6pm, Cartoon Network The Powerpuff Girls "Tiara Trouble" gives Townsville trouble from a tiara, because sometimes titles get right to the point. Specifically, the cursed headgear lays its whammy on the pageant of Beauty, Talent, and All-Around Flair. 8pm, The CW The Vampire Diaries Damon and Alaric road-trip it to Memphis in "One Way or Another." Ostensibly it has something to do with an escaped vampire and getting Stefan back, but I think they just want to indulge in blues, bourbon, BBQ, and bro-time. Elsewhere, Bonnie makes a valuable new friend in the psych ward whil ...

These 'Good Dinosaur' Easter Eggs Will Remind You Of Your Favorite Movies
Huffington Post - about 1 year
"The Good Dinosaur," Pixar's 16th feature film and its second to be released this year, asks what would happen if the meteor didn't hit the Earth and wipe out the dinosaurs. As The Huffington Post heard from actor Raymond Ochoa, the voice of the good dinosaur himself, Arlo, the movie is a completely original concept following the story of a young dino as he makes his mark on the world with a new human friend. Despite that, don't be surprised if a few things look a little familiar.  Here are five Easter eggs from "The Good Dinosaur" that may remind you of your favorite films:  1. "Jurassic Park" It's probably hard to do any dinosaur movie without something seeming straight out of "Jurassic Park," and "Good Dino" isn't any different. A few scenes, involving actor Sam Elliott's T. rex and some raptors, referred to as rustlers, may remind you of the final moments from Steven Spielberg's classic.  Make no mistake, though, the movie is in no way a conti ...

Movie Review: The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2... Timely Entertainment
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Mockingjay Part 2 is the best of the Hunger Games Trilogy. It is thrilling. A nail biter. After two movies based on the same source material, one would think, 'Enough.' But Mockingjay Part 2 surprises and proves the ending of this saga is the most powerful. The war of Panem escalates against the Capitol and President Snow (Donald Sutherland). It is up to Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her trusty bow and arrow to save the day. See the film to find out if, indeed, she does. Discussing the plot will only spoil your viewing. Francis Lawrence's direction is masterful. The sets are over the top. Katniss remains in love with Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) but flirts with Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). While Peeta is a weak character at times, one wonders why Katniss would be so enamored with him, but his character's weakness is no reflection of Hutcherson's acting ability which is nimble. But it is playboy type Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) who is the eye candy for the ladi ...
