Chairing The DNC: A Multimillion-Dollar Election
Huffington Post - 5 days
by Niv Sultan There’s a packed field in the race to chair the Democratic National Committee, whose 447 members will elect their new leader on Saturday. Rep. Keith Ellison and former Secretary of Labor Tom Perez lead the nine candidates who remain in the contest — a relatively diverse bunch hailing from around the country and from various levels of government. A third hopeful, Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., has collected some noteworthy endorsements and become the race’s potential dark horse. The candidates’ platforms, views and credentials are easily accessible. Less visible are their fundraising vehicles. Yes, as with any campaign, running for DNC chair costs money. Keith Ellison, Minnesota congressman On his campaign website, Ellison touts his status as a “proven fundraiser,” and he has backed up that claim in pursuit of his goal. An Ellison spokesperson told OpenSecrets Blog that the campaign was raising money through three accounts: Ellison for Congress, El ...

Bill Maher: 'For the Sake of Black America Obama Needs the Second Term'
News Busters - almost 5 years
The liberal media sure are playing the race card to get Barack Obama reelected. On HBO's Real Time Friday, host Bill Maher said, "For the sake of black America, he needs the second term" (video follows with transcript and commentary): BILL MAHER: I think the second term for Obama is more important even than the first. Obviously, it was important to get the first black president elected. But if the first black president only has one term, America reads that as a failure. This is what the right-wing hope and prays for more than anything else, that America looks at this one term president and goes, “Well you know what? We tried a black guy, but it just didn’t work.” And I think Obama’s aware of that. That’s why he’s so conservative in the first term. He knows for the sake of black America, he needs the second term. Yes, because let's face it - it would have been far better for blacks in this country if Ob ...

When Greene called Carlson a “bow-tying white boy,” the panel turned heated. At the end of her program, Kelly apologized for Greene’s comments. RELATED: Megyn Kelly Panel Goes Nowhere When Contributor Refuses To Debate How Much Of A Jerk Barbara Boxer Is Kelly asked if everyone could have a laugh about Warren’s claims, but Greene defended Warren saying that the current chief of the Cherokee nation is only 3 percent Cherokee. She continued, saying that Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) and the Massachusetts’s media’s response to the controversy has been mildly misogynistic. “You see Scott Brown really questioning her qualifications because he has to appeal to white, working-class voters who feel marginalized because of affirmative action,” said Gr ...
