Drew Barrymore Won't Let Daughter Pose for Playboy: "That's My Journey"
US Magazine - about 3 years
Drew Barrymore has no regrets over her very wild younger years, but that doesn't mean she wants her daughter to follow in her footsteps. In an interview with ABC News' Amy Robach, the 38-year-old actress, who is six-months-pregnant with her second daughter, opens up about how motherhood has changed her. "Is there anything you look back at [in your life] and you kind of cringe?" Robach asked. "No. I celebrate that I had any sense of freedoms at a certain point, because I don't feel like that now," Barrymore said. "I love the very exposed, humorous, imperfect, never trying to pretend to be perfect journey that I have been on in my life." PHOTOS: Drew Barrymore's wild style The E.T. child star famously went to rehab at the age of 13 for alcohol and drug abuse. She later attempted suicide, and became emancipated from her parents at age 15. By 19, she posed for Playboy and got her first divorce from Jeremy Thomas. Auburn murder suspect's attorney seeks to move trial
Fox News - over 4 years
An attorney for a Montgomery man accused of killing three people in a shooting at a party near Auburn University said Thursday she will ask that his trial be held outside of Lee County, where the school is located. Attorney Susan James said she was worried it would be difficult for Desmonte Leonard, 22, to receive a fair trial in Lee County because the slain included two former players, and a current player also was injured. "We need to get the trial out of Lee County. There's so much interest in that there" James said. James was one of three attorneys appointed Thursday to represent Leonard when he said he couldn't pay for his defense. Leonard faces three counts of capital murder and two assault charges in the shootings that apparently occurred after a fight over a woman. He is being held without bond. James helped Leonard turn himself in Tuesday after an intense three-day manhunt. She said she picked him up at an undisclosed location about 50 miles from Montgomery. She ...

Cops reportedly leave home after search for suspect in Auburn shooting
Fox News - over 4 years
Authorities in Montgomery left a home early Tuesday where they believed the man charged with fatally shooting three people near Auburn University might have been hiding. Law enforcement swarmed the scene Monday afternoon and spent hours firing tear gas, using thermal imaging and sending tactical teams on forays inside the house as they searched for Desmonte Leonard. They hadn't brought anyone out of the home by the time they held a briefing just after midnight. And around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, an Associated Press photographer on the scene saw all law enforcement agents that had been there leave without comment. It wasn't immediately clear why they left. There was no activity around the house. Leonard is charged with three counts of capital murder in a shooting Saturday night during a pool party at University Heights apartments. He's also accused of wounding three others. The dead included two former Auburn football players. While authorities were at the home Monday, Montgomery ...

2 accused of hindering search for Alabama man suspected in Auburn shootings that killed 3
Fox News - over 4 years
The search for a man charged with fatally shooting three people and wounding three more at a party near Auburn University focused on Alabama's capital Monday as police said they had arrested two men accused of hindering the search. Desmonte Leonard's last address was at a residence in Montgomery, and authorities said they believe he returned to the city after gunfire erupted late Saturday in Auburn, about 50 miles away. Two former Auburn football players were among the dead and a third was injured. More than three dozen local police, state agents and federal marshals were searching for Leonard, 22, who records show faced two previous charges involving guns. "We don't have reason to believe he is outside the city," said Sgt. Regina Duckett, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery Police Department. Auburn police said Jeremy S. Thomas, 18, of Montgomery was charged with hindering prosecution after allegedly fleeing the scene of the ...

David Briggs: Changing Attitudes On LGBT Issues Defy Religious Stereotypes
Huffington Post - over 4 years
A Pentecostal pastor lays down a saw at a residence for homeless people with AIDS, raps on wood and expresses pride in being able to look out in his church and see two pews filled with people with HIV. A retired Episcopalian schoolteacher in her 80s, with a shawl over the shoulders of her barely 5-foot frame, describes a series of religious visions at 3 a.m. that led her to start an AIDS hospice. Men in crew-cuts embrace a colorfully dressed gay man as part of a care team at a block-long Southern Baptist church in Texas. These stories and images come to mind looking back 20 years when, amid widespread suffering caused by the AIDS crisis, many religious communities found themselves working through a response balancing traditional teaching on sexuality, fear of the unknown and the commands of their faith to love their neighbor. Today, as President Obama comes forward to support same-sex marriage, many religious communities find themselves undergoing similar challenges ba ...

Stolen phone found in car thief's pocket
KSAT - almost 5 years
Jeremy Thomas woke up Tuesday morning and got ready to leave for work, but when he went outside, he noticed something was out of place. "I turn around and I'm like, 'Something is wrong here.' We realized her car had been stolen," Thomas said. Someone had stolen his wife's car. Assuming he wouldn't get it back, Thomas was equally surprised Sunday when he received a knock at his door. "I was sitting at the house with my wife. We got a knock on the door and it was the cops," Thomas said. Officers asked him to come with them to a home in the 4700 block of Casa Espana, where he found several detectives and piles of stolen belongings. "Found the checkbook, really didn't find anything else," Thomas said.  It turned out Thomas was one of at least two people who had their vehicles stolen by two men. But it was what they stole from inside the vehicles that ended up getting them caught. Officers tracked the two burglars down by the locator on a stolen iPad. They then ...
