Blueberry Jerry Jamboree Set for 2nd Appearance
New Port Richey Patch - almost 5 years
The Blueberry Jerry Jamboree was such a hit last year organizers have decided to bring it back for a repeat performance.
This year’s festival is set for April 27-29 at The Concourse at Safety Town, 12013 Alric Pottberg Road in Shady Hills. The hours are from 1 to 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. While admission is free, parking costs $5.
The festival got its start last year when Brenda Short thought it would serve as a good memorial to her husband, Jerry, and son Justin, 22.
Jerry and Brenda Short began growing blueberries in Hudson in 2002. Before too long, Jerry became known as “Blueberry Jerry.” Customers at Brenda’s Berry Barn started referring to her as “The Berry Lady.”
Jerry died on Aug. 5, 2010, at the age of 60. A few months later, son Justin, 22, was killed in a motorcycle accident.
Brenda Short decided last year that a festival in Jerry and Justin’s honor would serve to celebrate their lives.
