Gun Extremists May Propel Colorado Senate Candidate
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Journalists have raised doubts about whether Colorado State Sen. Tim Neville, who's expected to announce his campaign against Sen. Michael Bennet soon, can raise the $10 million or more required to unseat the well-financed Democratic incumbent. It's a reasonable question, for sure, because Tea Party Republicans like Neville have had difficulty in the fundraising department nationally. But recent political shifts could be opening bank accounts for Neville that were locked just months ago. Colorado's own Dudley Brown, who owns right field when it comes to reasonable gun control, has had close ties to the collapsing presidential campaign of Sen. Rand Paul (See joint photo.).  Brown may now be looking for a new gun-loving federal candidate to prop up with millions of dollars. And that lucky candidate could be Neville, whose close ties to Dudley are not in dispute as you can read below if you need to. But does Dudley have that kind of money? Well, he's president of the Nationa ...

No Insurance? But You Get a Price List at the Hospital
Huffington Post - about 2 years
Conservatives are still wondering around, from interview to interview, saying they want to dump Obamacare. And here's "the key thing," as articulated by freshman Colorado State Senator Tim Neville on the radio Saturday: Neville:The key thing is the Republican Party, and those of us up in the Senate and the House, need to make sure we have something to replace it, and we're working on a little bill along those lines this year. Neville didn't spill the beans on his Obamacare alternative right away, but he circled back to it later in the interview, aired on KNUS' Weekend Wake Up. Turns out, he was referring to his bill requiring hospitals to list the prices of common procedures, when third parties aren't paying for it. Neville @10:45 below: Going back to the health care, what do we have that's going to replace this? I have a pretty moderate bill requiring transparency and requiring--and I hate to require any business to do anything--but allowing people to actually get prices ...

Music: Don't You Forget About Simple Minds
Huffington Post - over 3 years
SIMPLE MINDS *** 1/2 out of **** ROSELAND BALLROOM 10/24/13 The band Simple Minds ended their first North American tour in more than a decade with a look back at their greatest period from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. The excuse was a a boxed set spanning their career, with both a 2 CD and a 3 CD version available called Celebrate (the 3 CD version is far preferable, with the strong final disc making up for their fallow period after worldwide success almost swallowed them). Celebrate they did. This was my first time seeing the band but I'd always heard they were a formidable live act. Indeed, almost without exception, their live versions outclassed the ones they captured on disc some 30 or so years ago when the group launched with 1979's Life In A Day. Their world tour continues on November 1 in South Africa with dates through March and a promise on their website for 2015: Simple Minds will tour again! This was not a show for fanatics looking for obscure B-sides or songs fro ...

Brewing Trouble: Breckenridge May Move To East Coast
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
With Colorado's legislative session slated to wrap up Wednesday at midnight, the crush is on for lawmakers to act. Of the handful of highly anticipated bills this year, most eyeballs now rest on Senate Bill 2, the civil unions bill Hickenlooper may even call a special session for, if needed. Less noticed, but worthy of our attention, is the fate of House Bill 12-1347. Rep. Jim Kerr (R-Littleton) introduced the bill earlier this session to raise the brewpub production cap to 300,000 barrels per year. Currently, licensed brewpubs cannot produce more than 60,000 barrels per year. Unfortunately for Breckenridge Brewing, which expects to hit 60,000 barrels of production this year, HB 1347 is unlikely to even see debate on the House floor, though it had unanimously passed out of committee several weeks prior. The Denver Business Journal reports Steve Findley, executive director of the Colorado Beer Distributors Association (CBDA), a lobbying group that opposed the legislat ...
