Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Celebrates 50 Years With New Album Releases on Sept. 30, First-Ever IBMA Performance
Huffington Post - 5 months
I have always found it a bit ironic that one of the most iconic American bands that plays bluegrass has its roots, not in the verdant hills of Appalachia, but in the shifting sands of sunny Southern California. Note that I said "band that plays bluegrass" rather than "bluegrass band." Because that's what Nitty Gritty Dirt Band leader and co-founder Jeff Hanna calls them. When the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band started playing together in 1966, the band's unique brand of music didn't have a name. In fact, it is the founding members of NGDB that helped create what we call Americana music today by mixing elements of bluegrass, folk, mountain music, country and western and rock and roll into a sound that was uniquely, you guessed it, American. "Even though, when we started in 1966 -- me, Jimmy and John - we lived by the beach in Southern California, we were drawn to folk music. We called ourselves 'folk puppies.' We weren't into surf music. We were lucky enough to get to see the Dil ...

Men's Hair Rocks Country Music Awards; Women Keep It Soft, Natural
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Just as I thought, the women on the red carpet at the Country Music Association Awards went with subtle, soft colors and natural layering. Carrie Underwood was beautifully emblematic of this strong trend with her baby blonde locks and big, open waves. But the men... wow! This is where the action and variety were at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Chase Bryant was rockin' his mohawk. Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line was working a great David Bowie look. Lots of guys had great beards, namely Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square, Chris Young, and John Carter Cash. Of course, at the CMAs, guys wore cowboy hats, including Garth Brooks, Clay Walker, and Dustin Lynch. Granger Smith and Kane Brown donned baseball-style caps. The men seemed to make more of a statement with hair than the women this year with more variety and looks, long hair, short hair, mohawks and classic cuts, too. Steve Martin showed us again how great gray hair can look on a guy. The women's ...

Stamp honoring Johnny Cash to go on sale Wednesday
Fox News - over 3 years
Beginning Wednesday, you'll be able to put Johnny Cash on all your mail. A "forever" stamp honoring the country music legend will go on sale, coinciding with the end of a yearlong celebration of the Man in Black's life and career. A free public concert in Nashville by family and friends of the singer also will honor his six-decade career. The 46-cent stamp will feature a 1963 image of Cash shot by Frank Bez during the photo session for the album "Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash." Cash's son, John Carter Cash, said the stamp is unusual, and therefore appropriate for his father's legacy. "It just truly embodies my father's spirit, who he was," Cash said. "It's different. That's one thing: It stands out to me as being unique. It's very commanding when you see the stamp." Wednesday's concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville features other Cash family members, including the late singer's brother and sister, Tommy Cash and Joanne Cash Yates, and friends Randy Travis, ...
