Forks to Discuss Putting a Cell Tower in Community Park
Palmer-Forks Patch - almost 5 years
In a 3-2 vote, Forks Supervisors agreed to listen to a proposal by Verizon to erect a cell phone tower in Forks Community Park. Township Zoning Officer Tim Weis asked supervisors if he could have approval to gather information from Verizon about placing a tower on township grounds. Weis said that Verizon Wireless has suggested paying the township $20,000 a year for the initial location with fees probably increasing each year. He said Verizon was seeking the same site that T Mobile suggested – with the park being the perfect central location to enhance cell phone service – when it made an unsuccessful pitch to the township for a cell tower a few years back. "It's just a proposal," Weis said. "It doesn't mean that some things can't be ironed out. Do we want to move forward on pursuing this revenue stream?" Supervisor Dan Martyak, who first supported the idea, asked if the tower could look like a tree instead of a steel structure and wondered whether it could be removed if ...

Forks Township Gives $10,000 for Miracle League Field
Palmer-Forks Patch - almost 5 years
The Miracle League of Northampton County has scored a major victory without a pitch being thrown yet this year. The Forks Township Board of Supervisors has agreed to donate $10,000 -- more than three times the proposed amount -- to support the league for the construction of its field and league startup in September in Palmer Township. Groundbreaking has happened for the baseball field at the Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township with opening day scheduled for Sept. 9. The field is specially designed to help children and adults with disabilities play baseball. After hearing presentations from Miracle League representatives about the league and field and David Colver, Palmer Township's Board of Supervisors chairman about supporting the project financially going forward, Township Supervisor David Billings suggested that Forks Township donate $3,000. Meanwhile, supervisor Dan Martyak said he would head a committee to help raise funds to provide financial support for year ...

ADHD in the Driver’s Seat – Fasten Your Seatbelts!
Psych Central - almost 5 years
The Ford Focus. I'll say no more. Since at least 1993, research about the dangers associated with ADHD and teen drivers has been piling up faster than cars at the Indie 500. Even so, judging from a recent NY Times online article (Learning to Drive With A.D.H.D., by John O’Neil, March 26, 2012) it’s still news. Why? I’m glad that the issue is getting media coverage. I’m disappointed that the association between ADHD and risky driving (especially in adolescents) isn’t common knowledge by now. How many accidents, from fender-benders to fatal, might have been prevented had this info been made public when it was first recognized? For the most part, O’Neil’s article is informative, well-researched, and encouraging. It might even save lives. That said, I was frustrated I couldn’t comment on it online, so I’m doing it here. We can’t remedy the past, but let’s get it right now The article is mostly fantastic, but I choked when I read the suggestion that an ADHD teen should narr ...
