The Presidents Of The United States ... RANKED
Huffington Post - about 1 year
President's Day! It's the day of the year when we celebrate anyone who's ever been commander in chief of this great nation, no matter who they are or what they look like.  Whether fair-skinned, a beige-pink mix, pale with a peachy hue, or Barack Obama -- you're our president!  But who's the best president? And who's the worst? "Andy, that's subjective. Right?" Let me answer your question with another question. How does it feel to be more wrong than you've ever been in your entire life? There is a definitive ranking of our nation's past presidents. And it lies right below this sentence.   44. Zachary Taylor (1849-1850) Pure garbage, this guy. Insisted that everyone pronounce his name "Zatch." Yeah, just super douchey. Also single-handedly responsible for Zachery Ty Bryan and Jonathan Taylor Thomas' careers. That's in the history books. His nickname was "Old Rough And Ready" ... let's just leave it at that. 43. Martin Van Buren (1837-1841) 42. Woodrow Wils ...

I Was The Other Woman And It Changed My Life (For The Better)
Huffington Post - over 1 year
By Cassie Robinson for DivorcedMoms.com What. A. Whore. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if that was one of the many thoughts going through your head as you clicked to read this article. First of all, I do not condone cheating and it is not something I am proud of. It is a terrible thing for everyone involved. But sadly yes, at one point in my life I was the other woman. If you're like me, you picture the other woman a certain way: she's sexy, voluptuous, physically perfect in every aspect, and on the inside she is this destructive, deceitful, heartless, pre-meditating and calculating demonic bitch who is on the prowl to destroy families for her own selfish gain. We mostly hear of the husband who is unfaithful. It was uncommon, at least for me, to hear of a woman who stepped outside of the marriage. And when I did hear of such a thing, I automatically became judgmental, turned up my nose and questioned how could a woman do such a thing? Well, let me tell you. I've been there. ...

What Tom Daley's Announcement Means for Gay Youth
Huffington Post Sports - about 3 years
In case you missed it, 19-year-old Olympic diver Tom Daley came out this week in an emotional YouTube video. He announced that he's been in a relationship with another man for several months now and wanted to clear the air following the publication of a recent article that had misquoted him in regard to his sexuality. In the hours following his post, the Internet was aflame with fans and celebrities congratulating Tom and wishing him well. There were also a few nasty characters looking to ruin the moment with jeers and bigotry. Between the two extremes, though, a lot of people also asked the question "so what?" Why do we make such a big deal about celebrities -- particularly young, attractive ones -- who come out of the closet? Some of the more jaded among us in the gay community will suggest that we're only interested in Tom because he's young and attractive, perhaps because we now think we have some kind of chance of dating him. I don't think that's wholly true, but I do think ...

Man Booker Prize To Allow American Authors
Huffington Post - over 3 years
LONDON — The Americans are coming to storm Britain's literary citadel. Organizers of the Booker Prize announced Wednesday that from next year authors from the U.S. – and around the world – will be eligible to win the prestigious fiction award. Prize trustees said that starting in 2014, the prize will be open to all novels written in English and published in Britain, regardless of the author's nationality. Founded in 1969, the Booker has previously been open only to writers from Britain, Ireland and the 54-nation Commonwealth of former British colonies. That has not kept the award – officially known as the Man Booker Prize after its sponsor, financial services firm Man Group PLC – from becoming one of the world's best-known literary accolades, one that carries both prestige and commercial clout. Past winners include V.S. Naipaul, Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Ian McEwan and Hilary Mantel. Jonathan Taylor, chairman of the prize trustees, said the expanded prize "will recognize, ...

Pat Gallagher: Tim Allen Talks TV, Marriage And The Real Meaning Of Life
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Tim Allen is not having a midlife crisis. He's been too busy to deal with such a thing. He seems free and clear of doing anything irrational to make himself feel young and invincible. These days, at 59, the Last Man Standing actor is coasting through life like a well-oiled engine from any one of his (we think over 30) favorite cars that he owns -- no serious body damage and running on a full tank. And, he's smart. Quantum physics smart. Who the heck knew that? Mr. Home Improvement -- or, as the kids know him: space ranger Buzz Lightyear from the animated film Toy Story -- who still performs his standup comedy act in Vegas, had a very revealing conversation with The Huffington Post to discuss the afore-mentioned quantum physics, how the aging process is going for him, why he became determined to do standup comedy after he got out of prison, how he conquered his alcohol addiction (loved this candid revelation the most) and his interpretation of the meaning of life. (Finally, ...

Jonathan Taylor Thomas Opens Up About Why He Walked Away From Fame
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
After years on a hit TV series and having his face plastered on the walls of teenage girls everywhere, Jonathan Taylor Thomas made a conscious decision to walk away from fame. "I'd been going nonstop since I was 8-years-old," the 31-year-old former "Home Improvement" star told People. "I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break." Thomas played Randy Taylor on the top-rated ABC series from 1991 to 1998, and enrolled in Harvard University in 2000, where he studied philosophy and history, and would eventually go on to finally complete his degree, graduating from Columbia University in 2010. "To sit in a big library amongst books and students, that was pretty cool. It was a novel experience for me," he told People of his educational experience, saying that he has "no regrets" about taking time away from the spotlight. "I never took the fame too seriously. It was a great period in my life, but it doesn't define me. When I think back on the time, I ...

Will They Return To 'Veronica Mars'?
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
From Oscar nominees to Emmy winners and Warrior Princesses to Gossip Girls, "Veronica Mars" had its fair share of now-famous guest stars back in the day. Many famous faces, like Leighton Meester and Krysten Ritter, appeared as classmates of Veronica's (Kristen Bell) at Neptune High and could easily appear at the 10-year reunion series creator Rob Thomas has planned for the "Veronica Mars" movie in the works. Others, like Lucy Lawless and Jonathan Taylor Thomas, might be a little bit of a stretch, but maybe it could still happen? Thomas told The Huffington Post that actors "are coming out of the woodwork and it's been great." "There are a lot of people who I've heard from saying, 'Hey ... Is there a chance my character is going to be in there?' I've been happy to say yes to the very small of those -- like the very small characters like Corny [Jonathan Chesner], our resident stoner. I plan on putting Corny in the movie," Thomas said. "Our Madison Sinclair [Amanda Nore ...

Defend your Land Rover with free security marking kits
Buxton Advertiser - over 4 years
Land Rover owners can get their vehicles marked with hi-tech security gear for free to help defend them against thieves. Derbyshire Dales and the High Peak have a low crime rate but when vehicle thefts do occur, Land Rover Defenders are often targeted. Now police are looking to help Land Rover Defender owners living in the Derbyshire Dales or High Peak by encouraging them to take advantage of free property marking kits available at Bakewell Agricultural Centre on Monday, November 26 and Monday December 3, from 10am to 3pm. PCSO Jonathan Taylor said: “When a Land Rover Defender is targeted, it can be extremely difficult to retrieve it if it is stripped into parts and then moved on. “However, having several key sections of your vehicle marked with these hi-tech kits can make it so much easier to get those parts back to the original owner. “Many owners will have had their Defender for a long time and might not have the latest security for it, which these kits provide. “They also act ...

Molly Fosco: Retro Sitcom Rewind
Huffington Post - over 4 years
It looks like Alex P. Keaton might be making a television comeback! Well not exactly, but Michael J. Fox is attached to star in a new series with writer Sam Laybourne (Cougar Town) and producer Will Gluck that is currently being pitched to major networks and would premiere in fall 2013. Fox has not starred in a series since the end of Spin City in 2002, and it's been even longer since he portrayed an endearing (and sometimes annoying) young conservative in Family Ties. I must say that I'm hoping this new series is somewhat of a 21st century rendition of Family Ties because the nostalgia alone would prompt me to watch! It's been way too long since I've seen my other friends. And by friends I mean the stars from my beloved '80s and '90s sitcoms that I used to pretend were my actual friends... (I'm normal! I swear!) When shows like Full House and Friends finally came to an end, a part of me was inconsolable for a while. Of course I bought the complete series DVD box sets but ...

Best Friends Graduate From Sumner High, Speak About Enjoying Life
Bonney Lake-Sumner Patch - over 4 years
Lots of best friends get to go through high school graduation together. But few have celebrated it like Alex Landes and Gabrielle Phelps of Sumner High School did Wednesday night. Of the 300 graduates, they were the two students chosen to speak to the thousands in attendance at the White River Amphitheater. Their messages were simple, yet wise beyond their years. “I’m challenging them to enjoy the moment and not worry so much about the future,” Landes said. “Do what makes you happy, and everything else will fall into place,” was Phelps’ message. Phelps and Landes have been best friends since kindergarten at Crestwood Elementary. They then went to Sumner Middle and now Sumner High. They both plan to attend Western Washington University next year, he majoring in business and she in kinesiology. They only dated for a little while, in the eighth grade. “We found out we were better as friends,” Phelps said. Practicing their speeches before the event, they seemed a littl ...
