Review: 'Kiss of the Damned' a bit of handsome nonsense
LATimes - almost 4 years
Xan Cassavetes' gothy kitsch is as much a salute to Italian horror legend Mario Bava as it is an actual film. The sly joke in Xan Cassavetes' "Kiss of the Damned" is that her vampire couple just want to be normal — read: boring. When not devouring possums in the countryside, Djuna (Joséphine de La Baume) and Paolo (Milo Ventimiglia) are happiest listening to classical music in their sedan driving home from a chic cocktail party where the host serves "politically correct" platelets, a tedious afterlife they hope to enjoy for the next 5,000 years.

[VIDEO] Teens, Young Adults Tell Parents What's What
East Greenwich Patch - about 4 years
The lucky people who attended Monday night's joint presentation by Bob Houghtaling's TLC group and volunteers from the Teen Center got the yin and yang of the teen experience. It was impressive. The Teen Leadership Consortium (otherwise known as the TLC) got the evening rolling by breaking into three different groups, with TLC members sitting in with each group directing the discussion in three areas: school stress, social media, and communication.  The idea came out of a TLC meeting earlier in the fall, when several students talked about the expectations they feel from school, their parents, and even themselves. Monday night's event was a chance to do just that – to try to talk to parents as a group directly and let them know how it feels to be a teenager in 2012. The teenagers were remarkably open and surprisingly supportive of parents' attempts to wean their kids off social media, for instance.  "It's going to be a struggle, but it's worth it, it's definitely worth it," ...

Crystal Ball Gazing: Report Predicts Biggest Food Trends Of 2013
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Restaurant consultant group Baum & Whiteman's annual report on food and dining trends, which came out this month, reads a bit like a hyperactive publicist's caffeine-addled ravings -- but it does bring up some keen points about what's to come next year. Its observation on trickle-down dining sticks out in particular. Kale, beet greens, chard, turnip greens and mustard greens -- all rejected by mainstream diners in past years -- are "trick[ling] down to mass-market feeders." A burger with BBQ-flavored kale chips is a thing, apparently. There's also a lot of truth to its statement that "Everyone wants to be Chipotle ... even Chipotle." We've already seen Chipotle's design influence revamps of Taco Bell and Wendy's, and Chipotle's Asian concept ShopHouse is aspiring to win over its same loyal consumers. We've seen some other trends coming, like vending machines (Sprinkles' cupcake ATM, anyone?), lots of lawsuits about authenticity in branding (yogurt and Nutella suit ...
