One Of The Best Celebrity Interviewers Is An 8-Year-Old Girl Who Recently Sat Down With Weird Al Yankovic
Huffington Post - 4 months
You might be surprised to learn that one of the best celebrity interviewers out there right now is actually an eight-year-old girl. She's interviewed stars like Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, and Tina Fey -- and all while she's still in elementary school! Lindalee Rose, interviewer extraordinaire, has been conducting celebrity interviews since February of 2013 -- that's right, when she was just five! -- and she hasn't looked back since. It all started with her love of the British sci-fi series, Doctor Who, which she became obsessed with at the ripe old age of two. It's amazing that someone so young was able to engage in such a cerebral show, but, then again, Lindalee is not your average kid. And her passion for the show just continued to grow over time. Lindalee's father, Steve Czarnecki, told me about the first episode of Doctor Who that they watched together. "My wife Rebekah came into the room and asked Lindalee what she thought of the episode? Lindalee lit up and be ...

Has Love Grown as Dating Apps Flourish?
NYTimes - about 1 year
Tinder, a mobile dating app that allows users to match with each other based solely on mutual physical attraction, has been called "shallow," the "dating apocalypse" and "a cave habitat for garbage males." But since it exploded on the dating scene, the number of mobile dating apps on the market has shot up, and the number of 18- to 24-year-old Americans who use them has increased fourfold since 2013. With all the new options, have the services become more sophisticated at pairing like-minded individuals? Do the apps work? 10 Reasons 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Is the Best 'Star Wars' Film Ever Made
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Photo credit: Disney/ LucasFilm Warning: major spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens ahead. Last week, I wrote two pieces panning Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The first one went viral -- around 100,000 "likes" and more than 12,000 shares at last count -- while the second one, intended in part to clarify the first, was widely read, but less so. The second article was necessary in part to explain how, despite finding The Force Awakens full of "plot holes," I nevertheless very much enjoyed it. As for the first article, it set off a firestorm of discussion over what a plot hole is (as explained here, it's simply a logical inconsistency in a narrative, whether critical to the plot or not) and polarized readers into two camps: those who saw not even one of the flaws I saw in the film, which largely accounted for the response on Facebook, and those who saw nearly every single flaw I called out, which was the dominant reaction on Twitter. The division yet again confirmed, a ...

Get Ready For A 'Call Of Duty' Movie
Huffington Post - over 1 year
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Activision Blizzard Inc. is moving deeper into the film and TV business. The video game maker unveiled plans Friday at an investors meeting during the annual BlizzCon fan convention to create and release its own film and TV series. The first projects from the newly formed Activision Blizzard Studios will be based on the "Call of Duty" military shooter franchise and kid-focused "Skylanders" toy-game series. Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyk noted that the division will be directly involved in the creation, development and marketing of movies and TV series based on Activision Blizzard properties. "We'll have a fraction of the overhead of the typical studio since we're starting with a blank page and building an organization that is right-sized for our intended creative output and for the future of the industry," van Dyk told investors. The first TV series from Activision Blizzard Studios will be "Skylanders Academy." The compute ...

Napoleon Dynamite doesn’t have as much time to game anymore, either
Yahoo News - over 1 year
The actor best known as Napoleon Dynamite has been busy exploring voiceover work of late, including Almost Heroes 3D, Pickle & Peanut and the new indie video game from Pencil Test Studios, Armikrog . A classic adventure game with a claymation aesthetic that was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2013, Armikrog is a spiritual successor to The Neverhood . Heder, who’s currently filming Ghost Hunters with Justin Long and David Krumholtz, hasn’t been active in the video game space — even though he’s a pretty big gamer. Heder explains why that’s likely to change in this exclusive interview. Digital Trends: Outside of Disney’s Epic Mickey 2 , you haven’t done a lot of game work. Why did you decide to get involved with Armikrog ? Jon Heder:  Doug TenNapel is a friend of mine and he’s super talented. When he came and asked me to do the game — I’ve been doing a lot more voice work recently and I play video games — but I really liked the concept. The fact that it’s stop motion animation i ...

'The Mindy Project' vs. 'New Girl': Who Wins?
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Have you been watching the third season of "New Girl"? I have. I've been a loyal fan since it debuted in 2011. There was just something so endearing about Zooey Deschanel and her portrayal of Jessica Day (though I get why some would be annoyed by how absolutely precious she can be). I, however, simply thought she was a clumsy breath of fresh air. Fast-forward to now and I have been sorely disappointed, almost from Episode 1 of Season 3. I'm not sure why. Is it because Jess and Nick (Jake Johnson) are a couple? Nope. I love them together and the "I love you"/finger guns exchange on Sunday's post-Super Bowl episode only added to that. Is it because Coach is around but Damon Wayans Jr. is only considered a "Special Guest Star" and not a regular cast member? Maybe. Is it because there has been more Winston (Lamorne Morris) and not enough Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Schmidt and Cece (Hannah Simone)? Kinda-sorta. I'm always cool with more Winston, but I do miss the Schmidt/Cece romance a ...

Justin Long's New Movie Almost Had A Very Different, Unintentionally Inappropriate Title
MTV News - over 3 years
Justin Long has been a busy man lately. That should be pretty evident by the fact that he had to movies to promote when he said down with MTV News' Josh Horowitz this week. The first, "A Case of You," a film co-written by Long and his brother Christian with Keir O'Donnell, tells the story of a man who molds himself to be the perfect match for the girl he's fallen in love with. The other is called "Best Man Down," a movie more serious than it's friendly title would have you believe. The day after his wedding, Scott (Long) finds that his best man and best friend Lumpy has died. The film was originally coming to be named after the deceased character, but it was changed recently. Long explains during the chat how the story of the first movie resonates with him and why the original title of the second might have given people the wrong idea.

'Mom': Christy Does A 'Drive By' To See What Her Boyfriend Is Working With
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Leave it to Bonnie to suggest the "drive by" to Christy on "Mom." Trying to do something different, Christy decided to abstain from having immediate sex with her latest beau, Adam (Justin Long). But her mother warned her that there is one inherent risk in this kind of delayed satisfaction. What if she falls for the guy only to find out later that he's not packing much ... where it counts? So she suggested a "drive by." "Cruise by the general vicinity," Bonnie told Christy. "Send your knee on a fact-finding mission." Later, when Christy and Adam got caught in the rain while on a hike and sought refuge in an empty cabin, Christy took her mother's advice. Thanks to an awkward camera angle, it looked like Adam had an obscene amount to work with for a moment. But while Christy was suitably satisfied with the results of her "fact-finding mission," she failed completely in the stealth department. "If you're curious, I can just show it to you," Adam offered after her awkward "drive by." ...
