Kathleen Kinmont: 6 Truly Healthy Ways To Get Over Your Ex
Huffington Post - over 4 years
I just got over a divorce. To me, there's nothing more motivating than a fresh start. I'm a writer, so I know that the "real writing" takes place in the re-writing. I've learned that we don't have to be bogged down by the past, the shame of regret or the endless shoulda, woulda, coulda. We can lighten our load by mentally stepping into a brand new day, free of the baggage of a broken past. It takes some skill and practice, but when you are starting over, learning how to recover from the loss is vital. Here are some tools for getting over The Tool. 1. Sit down and shut up. This is also known as meditating. The one thing that helps me calm down and eliminate stress is lighting a candle and staring into space. Find a comfortable sitting position, lift through your lower back, relax your shoulders and lengthen the back of your neck. This puts you in a position of sitting up straight so you can gaze confidently into the unknown. Breathe deeply into your belly, and silently inha ...

Lisa Marie Wilson: 7 Things Divorced Dads NEED To Know About Dating Again
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Many of my divorced guy friends are frustrated because they go on first dates, but the second date eludes them. They've come to me for help because my BFF, Kathleen Kinmont, and I started a spoof video breakup company, and subsequently, many men have been asking for advice. Countless clueless dudes have watched our online clips, where we break up with guys for a boatload of reasons. They sit and rethink the date, pondering everything that could've gone wrong (and obviously did, as the girl won't return their text). So, to save them from wasting more time and getting nowhere faster, I'm giving all the men who are blown off after the first encounter some tips on how to land a repeat outing. If you have kids, think of it as a Father's Day gift, and if you don't have kids and want them, then this might help in your quest to create a family. I'll start with some basic "Don'ts," which include talking about how great your ex-wife is/was. It only makes you look like you're still in l ...

Kathleen Kinmont: What's Wrong With Me?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Apparently, stirring the hornets nest with a lit torch is not a good idea. I'm referring to my previous blog, "Do I Really Need A Man?" An interesting and telling alternate title, chosen by the powers that be. It was a line pulled from my text, and I liked it, as it certainly relates to how I feel about my three divorces. What I noted from the stimulated 1300 commentors in 48 hours was that it was a pretty fair 50/50 split across the bored. These were my observations: A. Everybody either loved me or hated me. 2. It was a heads I win, tails you lose, on whether or not I did in fact need a man, want a man, want a woman, want a cat, hate men, brainwash women or what was I doing for dinner. C. It all my ex-husbands fault for the failure of my marriages, or it was all mine, and that I should be encouraged to take a serious long look in the mirror, and not just to put on my make-up this time. I'd like to talk a little more about "C". I remember being told by an ex that I was " ...

Kathleen Kinmont: Why I'm Happy To Be Single Forever
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
It's been six months since my third husband moved out. After noting all of the feelings and the extra workload, I've decided to make a personal checklist of things I need from a man and things I don't. It seems like the right thing to do at the end of an era like mine. I'm certainly not going to be staggering down another aisle in an off-white gown. At this point, I'd have to buy gifts for my family and friends, just to have them show up. "Please, come to another one of my weddings, mom and dad, there's a salad bowl in it for you from my second marriage, or is that one from the first?" So, I can check "marriage" off my list. Besides the fact that I also feel that marriage equals compromise, which also equals expectations, which equals disappointment. I pretty much see the end before it even starts. The one good thing about marriage is the tax break. Thanks government, for making something so archaic have a price tag. A few days after the ex moved out, I was so filled wit ...

Lisa Marie Wilson: Why I Laughed Through My Divorce
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
Two weeks after I moved out of my second husband's house, I learned that I had cancer. So now, when people tell me they're thinking of divorce, I tell them to get a full-body scan first. This always gets a few laughs. And it's laughter that's gotten me through the pain of divorce. You see, because I nearly lost my life to cancer, I've decided not to waste time thinking about what-ifs and what-could've-beens about my failed marriage. Instead, I focus on laughter and smiles. In fact, I'm dead serious about comedy. I was really lucky to have the funniest and most positive woman I know, Kathleen Kinmont, divorce her husband at the exact same time I was. That was more than a year ago. Her explanation to people who look at her with judging eyes is, "I'm not a failure, I'm really good at marriage. I've already had three of them." A lot of people cry during a divorce, but during our divorces, Kathleen and I started a comedy web series about breakups. Not because we weren't in angu ...

Review/Film; Bride's Head Revisited
NYTimes - almost 26 years
"This is no longer about re-animating the dead," says Dr. Herbert West, a prissy, warped but brilliant scientist, at the beginning of "Bride of Re-Animator." "This is about creating new life!" Yet it all comes down to the same thing: animating spare body parts. The doctor, who possesses the serum of life (a chartreuse liquid), thinks small as well
