'Arrow' (And The Flash) Hit The Target
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Wednesday's episode of "Arrow" (8 p.m. EST Wednesday, CW) is titled "The Scientist," which is appropriate, given that it's chock full of chemistry. Forgive the groan-worthy pun; it's possible I'm a little too giddy about how well this episode handled several elements -- particularly the introduction of Barry Allen, a.k.a. the Flash. Allen, who's played with a great deal of deft charm by Grant Gustin, may one day get his own spinoff. But the good news is "The Scientist" is more than just a backdoor pilot or an hour's worth of market research from DC Comics. "The Scientist" could have consisted of a truckload of dutiful setup and laborious world-building, but the hour crackles with "Arrow's" usual verve and energy. Barry Allen -- who's not yet the Flash when we meet him -- is gracefully incorporated into a show that knows where it's going and what to do with the heightened, satisfyingly melodramatic world it has created. It's hard not to think that the "Arrow" message boards ...

'Arrow': 'Broken Dolls' Sees Oliver In Laurel's Crosshairs As Black Canary Makes Her Move
Huffington Post - over 3 years
This week's episode of "Arrow" (Wed., Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW) is titled "Broken Dolls," and judging by the cliffhanger at the end of "Identity," things are likely going to get very messy in Starling City in tonight's installment. We last saw the Arrow (Stephen Amell) surrounded by an entire SWAT team after walking into a trap set by Laurel (Katie Cassidy), and during a recent interview, Amell teased that when the episode begins, "there is no cut, it’s the same scene, and it actually picks up with all the guns on Oliver, and him lowering his bow. That's his only move." Oliver is now caught between a rock and a hard place, eager to make Starling City safer as the vigilante, but clearly still in love with Laurel, who now has a vendetta against his crime-fighting alter-ego in the wake of Tommy's (Colin Donnell) death. Amell admitted that things will come to a head between Laurel and the vigilante fairly soon: "We do resolve Laurel’s mission against the vigilante relatively e ...

The Season 2 premiere of The CW's "Arrow" is just around the corner, which means it's time for an action-packed new promo trailer. Oliver (Stephen Amell) may have failed to save Starling City from Malcolm Merlyn's (John Barrowman) destruction in the Season 1 finale, but as our hero points out in the video below, "what doesn't kill me only makes me sharper." 'Arrow' Casts Its Black Canary
Huffington Post - over 3 years
"Arrow" has found its Black Canary ... and it's not the Katie you think it is. Actress Caity Lotz is set to play the alter-ego of Dinah Drake Lance on The CW superhero series, The Wrap reports. According to the website, Lotz will recur as the Black Canary on "Arrow's" upcoming second season. She is expected to eventually become a series regular, since her character is a potential love interest for Oliver Queen/Arrow (Stephen Amell). The Black Canary casting news comes as a bit of a surprise to "Arrow" fans who long believed that Katie Cassidy's character Dinah "Laurel" Lance would become the legendary superhero, as she does in the DC Comics franchise. Throughout "Arrow's" first season, there were a few references to Laurel becoming the Black Canary, including the character saying she wore fishnets to a Halloween party (a staple of the Black Canary's costume) and mentioning that her sister Sara had a black canary. The Black Canary character, who possesses the super ...

To celebrate the show's impending premiere, the Marvel Entertainment booth will apparently be showcasing the series all weekend long with even more special announcements to be made - like maybe revealing who J. August Richards is playing? Friday's panel will include "S.H.I.E.L.D." mastermind Joss Whedon and Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb. This isn't "Arrow's" first time in San Diego. 'It's The Girl Behind Glasses Trying To Win The Superhero'
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
"Arrow" returns on April 24, and as the episode's title "Home Invasion" suggests, things will hit close to home for Oliver (Stephen Amell), and his allies Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). The Huffington Post recently caught up with Rickards and executive producer Marc Guggenheim to preview what's ahead in the final four episodes of Season 1 and discuss the show's compelling relationships, including the unexpected popularity of what fans have termed "Olicity," the chemistry between troubled vigilante Oliver and tech-guru Felicity -- despite Oliver already being caught up in a potent love triangle with his ex-girlfriend Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and best friend Tommy (Colin Donnell). Superheroes really are chick magnets. But first things first: Guggenheim previewed what fans can expect from "Home Invasion," which will see our hooded hero "torn between the two closest people in his life ... Diggle and Laurel. 'Arrow' Postmortem: Can You Believe What Just Happened?
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
SPOILER ALERT: Do not read on unless you've seen the February 27 episode (Season 1, Episode 16) of The CW's "Arrow," titled "Dead to Rights." With "Dead to Rights," "Arrow" just delivered its most shocking, action-packed hour yet, with Oliver (Stephen Amell) revealing his identity to best friend Tommy (Colin Donnell) in order to help save Tommy's father's (John Barrowman) life. Thanks to Oliver's revelation -- and the fact that he apparently would never have told his best friend the truth were it not for the Malcolm's dire condition -- it seems as though his relationship with Tommy might be irreparably damaged. As if that wasn't enough, "Dead to Rights" also introduced Alex Kingston as Laurel's (Katie Cassidy) mother, Dinah Lance, who brought her daughter the shocking news that Laurel's sister, Sarah, may not have died on the boat that stranded Oliver on the island after all. HuffPost TV caught up with the episode's writer, DC Comics' Chief Creative Officer Geoff Jo ...

River Song Of 'Doctor Who' Joins 'Arrow' As Laurel Lance's Mother
MTV News - about 4 years
"Arrow" has found itself its Dinah Lance. Entertainment Weekly has learned that the mother of Laurel Lance will be played by British actress Alex Kingston. The "ER" and "Doctor Who" alum will reportedly return to Starling City in an attempt to win back the family she left after her daughter Sara. Like everyone in the "Arrow" universe, we'd bet that Dinah is more than meets the eye. Is her real motive just to make amends with her ex-husband Detective Quentin (Paul Blackthorne) and her daughter (Katie Cassidy)? Or does she have some ulterior reasons for her return? Honestly, it would be as much fun if Dinah didn't have a couple tricks up her sleeve. At least Kingston knows a thing or two about nerd culture thanks to her role in "Doctor Who." Hopefully she'll make as big of an impact in "Arrow" as she did in the BBC series as River Song. Do you think Kingston is a good pick for Dinah Lance?
