I'm So Ready For More Queer Black Girl Celebrity Couples
Huffington Post - 1 day
When Keke Palmer visited The Wendy Williams Show last week, the main highlight was the actress dragging the host for victim-blaming. But another standout of the interview was Palmer admitting that when it comes to dating, she likes “whoever loves [her]” with no respect to gender. It was a great moment of validation for Black girls on the queer spectrum. But what irked me was that just moments later, when Williams gave Palmer relationship advice, she still only referenced Palmer dating “boys and men.” -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. Keke Palmer On Self-Expression, Acting And Her Musical Comeback
Huffington Post - 3 months
Nearly 10 years after the release of her debut album, Keke Palmer is back with the release of her new 5-track visual album, “Lauren.” Titled after her birth name, Lauren Keyana Palmer, the “Akeelah and the Bee” actress gives the audience insight into her career as Keke Palmer, and addresses the obstacles and vulnerabilities that often come with being an entertainer. In September 2007, Palmer released her debut album, “So Uncool,” which failed to make an impact on the top of music charts. The flop, as it were, led Palmer to pursue acting full-time, resulting in a string of starring roles on TV series such as  “True Jackson, VP” and “Scream Queens,” among others. In retrospect, the singer-actress says her doubt about pursuing music was a result of label executives’ reluctance to view her as an artist. “They wouldn’t let me tell my story. And it’s not personal, it’s a very corporate business,” she told The Huffington Post. “It’s the corporate versus the creative. When you do ...

Ice Age: Collision Course
Huffington Post - 7 months
It's official. This is the year of animation. So many films from the genre are sprouting up like spring daisies that it's making the Oscar race for Best Animation Feature Film a nail-biter. And it's only midyear. Add to the list of strong contenders the fifth chapter in the Ice Age franchise, a doozy of a yarn that couples the creation of the planets with earth's impending doom by a runaway meteor. The farfetched story gives kids a crash course in astronomy and planetary science, while they follow the antics of their favorite prehistoric animals. (Photo courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox) This fantasy adventure film is squarely aimed at children and tweens. Very mild action, silly perilous situations, comic violence and rude humor that never crosses the line. You could show this film at a Sunday school fundraiser and not be embarrassed. For adults who crave double entendres that go over their offspring's heads--no dice. The script by Michael Wilson, Michael Berg and Yoni Brenne ...

Flint Rapper Says The Water Crisis Isn't Just A Public Relations Problem

11 Reasons We'll Always Love Aaliyah's Tomboy Style
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Before there was Ciara, Rita Ora, Tinashe or Keke Palmer, there was Aaliyah. The late singer-actress, who topped music charts in the '90s with hits like "Back & Forth," "If Your Girl Only Knew" and "Are You That Somebody?," was an innovator of tomboy style. Aaliyah coupled her R&B hip-hop-infused vocals with a wardrobe consisting of oversized jackets, midriff-baring tops, boxer briefs and cargo pants, proving that you don't have to dress overtly sexy to be taken seriously as an entertainer. Despite the fact that she died in a 2001 plane crash at just 22 years old, Aaliyah's sound and style still lives on today. In honor of what would have been Aaliyah's 37th birthday on Jan. 16, we remember her signature tomboy style. What is your favorite Aaliyah fashion moment?
