Celtics whip Kings in Mexico
Yahoo News - about 1 year
(The Sports Xchange) - Boston guard Isaiah Thomas scored 21 points and added nine assists as the Celtics made it a miserable trip to Mexico for the Sacramento Kings with a 114-97 whipping at Mexico City Arena on Thursday. Thomas ripped apart his former team from the beginning, scoring 19 points in the opening half and 12 in the first 12 minutes as Boston ran to leads of 32-17 after one period and 51-36 at halftime. Kelly Olynyk came off the bench to add 21 points for the Celtics (11-8), who won for the fourth time in five games and made the annual NBA Global Game a dull one on the scoreboard.

Boston Celtics: top options in the upcoming NBA Draft
isports web - almost 2 years
The Boston Celtics have four picks in the upcoming NBA draft, which takes place on June 25th in Brooklyn, New York.  Due to the Celtics’ late-season playoff push, their first pick comes at 16, outside the lottery and past the point in the draft where teams typically expect to get a true impact player.  There have of course been exceptions. Boston, in fact, made a draft day trade with the Phoenix Suns in 2006 for 21st pick Rajon Rondo, who went on to four All-Star appearances with the team.  That same year Kyle Lowry was selected 24th.  Other notable examples include Jimmy Butler, who was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 30th pick in 2011, and Zach Randolph, who the Portland Trail Blazers grabbed with the 19th pick in 2001.  There will likely be a player lurking when the Celtics make their selection that can come in and help the team.  It’s general manager Danny Ainge’s job to find him. Sam Dekker There’s also the chance, however, that Ainge tries to maneuver his team to a ...

Cavaliers Lose Love for Playoffs, Smith For Two Games
isports web - almost 2 years
The Cleveland Cavaliers will now have an even tougher matchup versus the Chicago Bulls in round two of the playoffs because of a costly injury and suspension. Towards the end of a very physical round one matchup with the Celtics, tensions escalated to the point of flagrant fouls multiple times. Also importantly, Cavalier’s Kevin Love was involved in what he called not a basketball play when Kelly Olynyk wrapped his arm up and dislocated his shoulder. Love rushed to the locker room and later the GM indicated he would be unlikely to return during the playoffs. Being that he was a part of the “big three” at Cleveland, this should be a rather significant blow to their title chances. However, with Tristan Thompson as a suitable backup and Iman Shumpert to replace J.R. Smith for the first two games, they could get by. They would also have to tap into their bench more than usual, with names like Shawn Marion and Mike Miller coming up as possible recipients of increased minutes. Center K ...

Cavs star Love out for season after shoulder op
Yahoo News - almost 2 years
Cleveland star Kevin Love faces up to six months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to repair a shoulder injury sustained during last weekend's NBA playoff win over Boston, his team confirmed. Love, 26, went under the knife in New York on Wednesday to fix his left shoulder, which was dislocated during a clash with Boston's Kelly Olynyk on Sunday as the Cavaliers completed a series sweep. The Cavs had initially voiced hope that Love may recover in time to feature at some point in the postseason. Love accused the Boston forward of deliberately targeting him when he yanked on his arm and pulled it away from his body.

Are You a True Bostonian or Do You Like NYC Brisket (Mutually Exclusive Much)?
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
I am a big Jay McInerney fan and I heard him speak years ago at the St. Luke's Church on Hudson street. He told a harrowing tale about almost dropping his coffee cup onto the heads of St. Luke's students when he lived above the school across the street. He also told a much more personal harrowing tale about his mother who was publicly shamed in their hometown due to scandal. It made him leave and subsequently dislike his hometown. Post reading I approached the table and told him that I also disliked my hometown and his piercing cobalt eyes locked in and he said, "That is a sign of intelligence." I am from Boston, or more specifically the suburb of Belmont which borders Cambridge which is hip, while Belmont in my time was a dry town (no booze) with no cable TV nor fast food restaurants (no teenage angst outlets.) As an adult I have lived in New York City for twenty odd years but I retain a certain love (and some dislike) for "Bahstan," as my friend Margie from Dorchester says. It is ...

Full Predictions for Rajon Rondo's 2013-14 Season
Bleacher Report - about 3 years
When Rajon Rondo returns to the Boston Celtics, the four-time All-Star will unquestionably be the team’s best player. Where once we thought this month was out of the question, Rondo's reappearance is reportedly happening Friday, per Chris Forsberg and ESPN.  Though his rehab seems to have gone smoothly and ahead of schedule, that doesn't mean his acclimation won't arrive without an avalanche of questions. How will he fit into his new head coach's system. What can we expect from him on the court after a catastrophic injury? Point guards and their knees have unfortunately clashed far too often over the past few seasons. Eric Bledsoe, Ricky Rubio, Derrick Rose, John Wall and Russell Westbrook all suffered various ailments, some more serious than others. Towards the end of a January 25th (2013) contest against the Atlanta Hawks, Rondo joined that list after tearing his ACL. It ended his season along with Boston’s era of championship contention. For Danny Ainge, the injury made ...

Blazers vs. Celtics - Hot Live Blog Action
The Portland Mercury - about 3 years
Live from the Moda Center as the Portland Trail Blazers host the Boston Celtics. Hey look, there’s Doc Rivers! Wait, nope, he’s gone. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett? Gone and gone. Rajon Rondo? He’s here, but recovering from a torn ACL. I guess that leaves, uh, Jeff Green? Yeah, Jeff Green! Go Celtics! Looking up and down this Boston roster is terrifying. It’s replacement-level talent, a horrorshow of castoffs, misfits, and spare parts. Kris Humphries is their highest paid player. Even with the recent addition of semi-competent Jerryd Bayless—hey, remember him?—this squad still resembles a D-League team as opposed to one that belongs in the NBA. That they have won thirteen games is a testament to just how well first year coach Brad Stevens is doing. I mean, Jordan Crawford (!!!) is arguably Boston’s best active player. If the Blazers don’t win by forty tonight it will be a disappointment. PRE-GAME: The Celtics have only won once in their last eleven games, free fal ...

You Thought These NBA Teams Were Bad, But No, It's Worse
Huffington Post Sports - over 3 years
The NBA season is still very young, and some teams are out to a great start, while others have stumbled and show no signs of getting back on their feet. Indeed, the Eastern Conference in particular seems to have tripped over its own shoelaces. Boston's Big Problems Rookie head coach Brad Stevens walked into a buzz saw. The Celtics are in full rebuilding mode. They aren't exactly tanking, but then again, rookie Kelly Olynyk is averaging 23 minutes a night alongside Jared Sullinger and the trigger-happy Jordan Crawford (both also averaging 20-plus minutes). Jeff Green is the team's go-to option, and Jeff Green is not a go-to option in the NBA. Point guard Rajon Rondo continues to rehab his ACL amid trade rumors. (Getty Images) The real question is if, and when, All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo will play this season. Rondo, who tore his ACL in January, is the team's best asset. Recent rumors suggest he may be used as trade bait for Iman Shumpert. On the one hand, Rondo i ...

NBA Rookie Class Led By Victor Oladipo Is High Quality, If Not Full Of Superstars
Huffington Post - over 3 years
The 2014 NBA Draft class might be the most talented crop of hoopers since the famed 2003 draft including LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh. But that hardly means we should overlook this year's incoming class, which features a strong blend of scoring, toughness and some possible star power. Let's take a look at five of the key story lines for this year's rookies. 1. Victor's World Victor Olapido, Orlando's second overall pick, is something special. While scouts questioned his natural scoring ability and shooting touch coming out of Indiana (they did the same when he came out of high school), he wowed with his relentless defense, tenacious rebounding and overall appetite for making plays. Oladipo may not have a true position quite yet, but neither did Russell Westbrook or Wade when they came out of school -- and make no mistake, the comparisons to both are real. Oladipo earned consensus First-Team All-America honors during his junior season at Indiana. He is an ...

Terry Lyons: Boston Celtics Pride and Joy: New Coach Brad Stevens a Family Man
Huffington Post Sports - over 3 years
The formalities were already covered by a series of phone calls between Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens. It was time to sit down and finalize a deal to make Stevens the 17th head coach to walk the sidelines for the storied National Basketball Association franchise. Not a soul outside of the organization was aware of the breakfast meeting at Stevens' mother's house in Indiana, a setting that would make the casting directors and set designers for the motion picture Hoosiers marvel in creative vision. The deal breaker was going to be the Celtics' ability to put Stevens and his family at ease with the daunting task and unfathomable opportunity being proposed to the young coach, the most successful coach in the history of tiny Butler University. Stevens' mother's shitzu poodle, Mack, greeted Ainge and the Celtics hierarchy at the garage door. Then, with the snuff test administered by the 10-pound pooch successfully passed, the deal- ...
