Awards season is about to begin and music’s biggest night will be here before you know it. On Tuesday morning, the Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 59th annual Grammy Awards.  Last year’s Best New Artist, Meghan Trainor, got things rolling by revealing the general field awards on “CBS This Morning,” and more nominations were announced throughout the day.  Beyoncé leads with nine nominations, while Drake and Rihanna follow close behind with eight each. In 1983, to promote their hit single "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," Journey shot their first scripted music video that wasn't just remastered concert footage (or in-studio footage). If the goal was to make a great music video, that did not happen. If the goal was to make one of the cheesiest music videos ever put to film -- a video so infamous that, almost 30 years later, we're still talking about it -- then, yes mission accomplished. Journey guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain are in New York, along with new frontman Arnel Pineda, to promote the Tribeca Film Festival documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" -- the story of how Pineda went from YouTube to the new lead singer of Journey. The full interview will publish next week, but this reporter couldn't resist asking Schon and Cain about their experience air guitaring through what might be one of the most ridiculous videos of all time (if you believe Beavis and Butthead, that is).     More Details Hide Details In the early 1990s, the Jackson Guitar Company made a Kip Winger Signature Bass. During the late 1980s Winger dated the actress Rachel Hunter. His first wife Beatrice Richter, whom he married in 1991, died in a car accident in November 1996.

    In 2009, Winger recorded their fifth studio album, Karma, which was hailed as their best record.

Following the release of From the Moon to the Sun, Winger studied with Michael Kurek and composed a thirty-minute symphonic piece, "Ghosts", written for strings, piano and harp for a ballet commission. A world premiere with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra on November 14–15, 2009 has been confirmed. Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon created the ballet "Ghosts", which premiered at the San Francisco Ballet on February 9, 2010, with set design by Laura Jellinek, lighting design by M.L. Geiger and costume design by Mark Zappone. Winger was nominated for an Isadora Duncan Award for Excellence in Music. The ballet was a hit and was brought back for a second season in 2010. Winger then composed a four-part work entitled "Conversations with Nijinsky", intended to celebrate the life of ballet dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky. A recording of the piece performed by the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra on the album C.F. Kip Winger: Conversations with Nijinsky reached the top of the traditional classical category on the Billboard music charts.

    More Details Hide Details Winger returned to New York to work on songs with Reb Beach. They were joined by drummer Rod Morgenstein and keyboard player Paul Taylor. They initially performed under the name Sahara, but eventually changed their name to Winger, at Alice Cooper's suggestion. The band Winger released three albums (Winger (1988), In the Heart of the Young (1990), and Pull (1993) before moving on to solo careers. Kip Winger then moved to New Mexico to work on his solo career, and study with Richard Hermann at the University of New Mexico.

While Reb Beach was working on Fiona Flanagan's Beyond the Pale record at Atlantic, Winger and Beach were introduced to each other and later began recording demos.

At age 16, Winger began studying classical music after hearing the works of composers such as Debussy, Ravel, and Stravinsky in ballet class. At that time he sent a demo tape to Alan Parsons, from whom he received a personal reply. Years later, when Winger was chosen to be the lead singer of The Alan Parsons Live Project, he presented Parsons with that letter from 30 years prior. In 1982, he studied with Sam Guarnaccia in Denver then moved to New York City and waited tables while studying composition with Edgar Grana.
