Phillip Spector * SPECTOR MURDER TRIAL BEGINS The PHIL SPECTOR murder trial has begun in Los Angeles Superior Court, more than four years after actress Lana Clarkson was found fatally shot at the music producer's California mansion. Wall Of Sound creator Spector, 67, arrived at court this morning (25Apr07) surrounded by bodyguards and was greeted by a media frenzy. Police say Spector, who is charged with second degree murder, initially admitted to the February 2003 killing - a statement which the producer says was made under duress. He has since claimed Clarkson committed suicide. As the hearing got underway, Judge Larry Paul Fidler began with instructions to the jury, made up of nine men and three women. Prosecutor Alan Jackson then began his opening statement by telling the jury about Spector's alleged history of violence against women. He said, "You're going to be introduced to evidence... about the defendant's history of violence, about his pattern of violence with women, his history of losing his temper, his history of flying into rages, his history of pulling guns on unarmed women. "The evidence will show, ladies and gentleman, that Lana Clarkson fell victim to Phillip Spector on 3 February 2003 at about five o'clock in the morning. "But she was simply the last in a very long line of women who had been victimised by Phillip Spector over the years." The case continues. (GES/WNV)
