Lucas to host CMH Diamond Nationals

The Lucas Oil Speedway will host some of the fastest and most popular Late Model dirt-track racers in the nation for the sixth annual Citizens Memorial Healthcare Diamond Nationals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14. Scott Bloomquist, Jimmy Owens, Earl Pearson Jr., Don O’Neal, Ray Cook, Dale McDowell, Terry Phillips, Tyler Reddick and other nationally known Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers will compete in the $10,000-to-win feature. The winner will also win a special CMH Diamond Nationals diamond ring. The Modifieds will also compete in a $750-to-win feature. The LOS gates will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 15, in Wheatland. Bloomquist won the 2011 CMH Diamond Nationals, finishing just in front of Owens. Also this weekend The Dallas County Speedway at Urbana will host a regular-season show with racing in B-Modifieds, Midwest Mods, Bombers, Mini Stocks and Pure Stocks at 8 p.m. Friday, July 13. Cody Baker gets first-time win at Lucas Oil Saturday night with sprint car

The Lucas Oil Speedway held the first of two appearances in 2012 by the Lucas Oil ASCS Winged Sprint Cars, drawing 43 of the nation’s top drivers in the sport. Cody Baker, with the American Sprint Car Series National Touring Series, ended the night with a first-time win. Starting third for the night’s 30-lap Feature race at the Lucas Oil Speedway, Baker’s No. 38 car shot into the runner-up spot on the start with pole sitter Josh Fisher taking the lead. Fisher would give up the lead on lap nine after slipping off the inside groove. Baker would take over the lead while Fisher worked to hold off Zach Chappell. Fisher dropped to fourth as Chappell raced by with Brian Brown close behind. Battling back into third, Brown worked into second on lap 22. Brown would take second with Kyle Bellm coming from seventh to round out the top three. Tony Bruce Jr. would take fourth after starting eighth, while Chappell held on for a top-five finish.
