Video Premiere: With 'Halley's Comet,' Sarah Darling Gets Her Dream On
Huffington Post - about 1 month
Once upon a time, a little country girl with big eyes and bigger dreams wanted to reach for the stars in the clear Iowa skies and share those desires with the world through her songs and one beautiful voice. Some of those aspirations were realized after she decided to leave behind her teenage years -- and tiny hometown of Mitchellville, Iowa -- 14 years ago to pursue those dreams as a country music artist in Nashville. Now, just 15 days before the release of Dream Country, her third full-length album, Sarah Darling is ready for the big reveal. In the form of an animated video that premieres today (Jan. 26) exclusively at The Huffington Post, "Halley's Comet" arrives as another in a series of bright, shining moments for the humble but talented singer-songwriter. The song, one of seven she wrote or cowrote among the 10 tracks that appear on Dream Country (out Feb. 10), is "just a really personal story" about a dreamer and that key figure in one's life who "encourages you t ...

Trent Harmon Is The 15th And Final 'American Idol'
Huffington Post - 11 months
After 15 seasons, "American Idol"  has come to an end.  But the series finale was nothing short of spectacular as previous winners, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery, Fantasia Barrino, David Cook, Phillip Phillips, Jordin Sparks and more, returned to perform one last time on the "Idol" stage. The original judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, also made a memorable appearance alongside host Ryan Seacrest with Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban looking on as they all said farewell. (Former co-host Brian Dunkleman even showed up!)  Most importantly, though, the singing competition show crowned its final winner. Seacrest named Trent Harmon as the 2016 "American Idol," with La'Porsha Renae coming in second place. Third-place finisher Dalton Rapattoni was eliminated during Wednesday night's show. via GIPHY It seemed like the viewers' choice was somewhat surprising for the judges, as Connick Jr. turned to ...

Laura Prudom: 'Idol' Finale: Why Phillip Phillips And The 'White Guy With Guitar' Trend Are Bad For Business
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
Last night, America crowned Phillip Phillips, the 21-year-old pawn shop worker from Georgia, as the latest "American Idol." This should've come as a surprise to exactly no one, given that Phillip is now the fifth in an uninterrupted line of "White Guys With Guitars" who have snagged the coveted crown over the past few seasons. I was noting the bias towards "WGWG" way back in my recap of the Top 24 -- although in those halcyon days, I was foolishly giving the edge to Colton, just because he was more conventionally attractive (and more annoying), even going so far as to note: "He's white, male and can play an instrument, so he'll probably win." Close enough, right? Clearly, I was discounting the sympathy votes Phil-Phil would earn for his kidney problems, but I did note that he had one of the stand-out performances in the first live round. I've enjoyed a number of his renditions over the course of the competition, but I haven't had a horse in this race since Elise Teston ...
