Lil Jon Had To Tell Trump Why Calling Him An 'Uncle Tom' Was Not OK
Huffington Post - 4 months
Lil Jon said he once had to call out Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for offensively calling him an “Uncle Tom” during a 2013 episode of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”  The Atlanta rapper released a statement on Twitter Friday in response to a recent story by The Daily Beast. The news outlet reported that three former staffers of the reality show claimed that Trump ― who was the host of show at the time ― had repeatedly called Lil Jon an “Uncle Tom” after the rapper put on a Uncle Sam costume to help promote a product his team was pitching.   “Look, he’s Uncle Tom!” one staffer reportedly said Trump yelled during the show at least twice. The Daily Beast reported that the same staffer explained to them how Trump was “tone-deaf to the racially charged history of the term, which is used to deride a black man deemed to be subservient to white people.”  Lil Jon’s statement confirmed the name-calling and that he had to explain to Trump why the term was so offensive.  ...

Irish Rowers Deserve Gold For Funniest TV Interview At Rio 2016
Huffington Post - 7 months
Ireland’s Paul and Gary O’Donovan won a silver medal for rowing at Rio 2016 on Friday, but they deserve gold for this hilarious interview. Footage of the brothers openly chatting to Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE about their urine tests, “podium pants” and how they plan to celebrate their achievement has quickly gone viral. Their television appearance begins with them asking the station’s anchors, via a live satellite feed from Brazil, “How are tings?” and “What’s the craic?” “We’re in Rio, the background might look superimposed but it’s very real,” jokes Gary O’Donovan, before his brother Paul goes into possibly a little bit too much detail about his doping test. The brothers’ performances, on and off the water, has set social media alight, with some Twitter users hailing them as “Ireland’s gift to the world.” The O'Donovan brothers are Ireland's gift to the world https://t.co/u2o9TwraPc — Kim Phạm (@kim617) August 13, 2016 Th ...

These Olympic Beach Volleyball Photos Prove That Sports Are For Everyone
Huffington Post - 7 months
It’s safe to say that most of us associate beach volleyball with skimpy outfits. But Olympians from Egypt are challenging that norm, showing that religious customs don’t have to be a hindrance to competing at an Olympic level. Photos from the Egypt-Germany women’s beach volleyball game in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday paint a picture of two drastically different cultures ― one team wearing two-piece swimsuits and another revealing very little ― but attest to the way sports bring people together and promote acceptance. In a tweet Monday showing a photo of Egypt’s Doaa Elghobashy and Germany’s Kira Walkenhorst, author Ian Bremmer summed it up aptly: Egypt v Germany, Beach Volleyball. This is why we do the Olympics. pic.twitter.com/DT19Zm5ube — ian bremmer (@ianbremmer) August 8, 2016 Check out more photos of the game below, which Germany won 2-0. More Details Hide Details Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic has described Lil Jon's production as "bass-heavy," and his album Put Yo Hood Up as having "a long and varied list of guest rappers to accompany the beats". Describing that album with guest performers, Birchmeier remarked: "The end result is an album that resembles a street-level mixtape rather than a traditional artist-oriented album". Lil Jon was specifically influenced by 2 Live Crew, 8Ball & MJG, Three 6 Mafia, OutKast, Geto Boys, UGK, N.W.A, Dr. Dre, and Sir Mix-A-Lot. Lil Jon has also found influence in rock music, having worked with Rick Rubin and Korn. He expresses this influence in his aggressive delivery and 'yelling' style of rap.
