They make product spread seamlessly and skin look flawless. But let’s be real, a lot of dudes have never seen one of these things. And if you haven’t ever seen one before, their purpose is likely a bit baffling. Twitter user Selena Faye put this theory to the test. Faye asked her followers to send their boyfriends/male friends a photo of a beauty blender, ask ...

Donations Pour In For Father Of 6 Killed In San Bernardino Shooting
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Michael Raymond Wetzel was such a great dad that his best friend often joked that he was “jealous” of Wetzel’s natural parenting skills. After he was killed in Wednesday’s San Bernardino mass shooting, those closest to Wetzel, and people whom he never met, banded together to ensure that his six children continue to be taken care of in the best way possible. Wetzel, who worked as a supervising environmental health specialist, was one 14 people killed at the Inland Regional Center on Wednesday when two attackers stormed the nonprofit that services people with disabilities. When Wetzel’s wife, Renee, learned of the shooting, she immediately alerted a Facebook support group for moms to which she belongs. Celia Behar, co-founder of Lil' Mama’s, quickly sprung into action, reached out to Renee and prepared for the worst. When Behar found out that Wetzel had died, she set up a fundraiser through YouCaring, which was up and running by 8 a.m. on Thursday, Behar told The Huffingto ...

In Her Words: Lil Mama Recounts Breast Cancer Battle
Huffington Post - over 1 year
By Lil Mama As Told to Najja Parker I didn't take it seriously when my mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. She didn't look sick. She didn't act sick. She still had her energy and smile and was always loving and sensitive. Despite our financial hardships or how she felt, she made sure my seven siblings and I never missed a trip to the circus or a chance to sing and harmonize with her. My mother remained the same person in and out of her sickness. She always said she would beat it, and she did. Then, the cancer came back, and it spread throughout her body. I watched my mom go through operations on her brain. She was in pain, and she started losing her hair and dropping weight. That's when it became real to me. I never would have imagined it. I didn't see it coming to a person who was so lively. While she stayed in high spirits, I saw the change in her security. She didn't feel like herself. That was very hurtful to witness. While I was on the Up Close ...

On the "A" w/Souleo: Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Hopes New Documentary Series Will Change Education System
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Henry Louis Gates, Jr. hopes that his latest PBS documentary, The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., will not only educate the public but also lead to reform in the nation's public school system. "We need one documentary to show the whole sweep of history to make it easy for teachers to incorporate black history into the larger story of American history. It is too much work and too expensive for teachers to do it any other way," he says. The series runs for the next six weeks and aims to cover the full scope of African-American history from 1513, which marks the arrival of Juan Garrido, the first documented black person in the U.S. to the present-day historic election of President Barack Obama. Gates knows that in order for such history to be fully integrated into the nation's school systems he will need the support of politicians. "We need the Congressional Black Caucus and political leaders to press for mandating this full integration in our c ...

TLC Biopic 'CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story' Takes A Look At The Women Behind The Band
Huffington Post - over 3 years
ATLANTA -- ATLANTA (AP) — For Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, there were several uncomfortable moments watching actresses portray them in a new TLC biopic. But it was especially strange to watch Lil Mama, who played the role of the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes — the third member of the Grammy-winning R&B group who died in a car crash in Honduras in 2002. "She totally came into character," Chilli said of Lil Mama, who wore contacts to mimic Left Eye's distinctively large, dark pupils. "It was kind of scary. The resemblance was just crazy at times. Naturally, she kind of had some of the similar characteristics like Lisa. It was kind of eerie at times for us." Alongside Lil Mama, Keke Palmer stars as Chilli and Drew Sidora as T-Boz in the film, "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story," which premieres Monday on VH1. The two-hour movie chronicles the trio's rise to fame, their drama-filled love lives — famously including Left Eye burning down the house of lover and former NF ...

The Good, The Bad And The Rachet On The BET Hip Hop Awards Red Carpet (PHOTOS)
Huffington Post - over 3 years
We can always count on The BET Hip Hop Awards to provide us with some wild fashion moments (see: this and that). This year Kevin Hart, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, MC Lyte and Snoop Dogg are just a few of the stars who stepped out in style for the eighth annual event, which will air on October 15. While there were definitely a few winning looks, most of the attendees took the opportunity to be a bit more daring with their outfits. With that said, here's a look at the good, the bad and the, er, rachet from the awards show. The Good Eve managed to outshine everyone on the red carpet. You can't really go wrong in an LBD, especially in a mini beaded number. The Bad Sigh. We really love this BCBG MaxAzria printed suit, but Lil' Mama's hair is just way too distracting (her abs too, for that matter) The Rachet WTF! Bambi, former "Basketball Wives of LA" co-star, thought it would be a good idea to wear this monstrosity of a "dress" to the awards show. One question: why? Check out the r ...
