New Jersey woman aboard fire-ravaged Royal Caribbean cruise recalls moment her 'heart dropped'
Fox News - over 3 years
Linda Harrison wasn't prepared for her husband's early Monday orders during the New Jersey couple's stay aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas. The cruise ship veterans, who had embarked on 10 or 11 cruises over the years, were in for the ride of a lifetime over the next four hours after Don Harrison ordered his wife to "get up," Philly.com reports. "I jumped up, threw on a robe; we grabbed everything in the safe and life jackets and went to our muster station," she said late Tuesday, a day after the cruise ship caught fire in the middle of the Caribbean. The cause of the fire was not yet clear, cruise officials said Tuesday, as passengers returned to Baltimore on charter flights from the Bahamas, with many praising the response of the company and crew. Linda Harrison said the crew and the captain remained very calm as passengers waitedcat emergency locations onboard. "All the crew kept telling us was there's nothing to worry about, all just a littl ...

Olympic run for mum’s memory
Hartlepool Mail - almost 5 years
HEALTH chiefs have thanked a keen runner who raised vital charity cash when she became one of the first people to run at the new Olympic Stadium, in London. Denise Bell raised £910 for Hartlepool’s palliative care department when she joined other athletes to test the new stadium in the National Lottery Olympic Park Run. She used the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to raise money in memory of her mum, Linda Harrison, who the unit helped after she was diagnosed with cancer two years ago aged 63. Linda died just 13 weeks after being told she had incurable tumours. Generous town businesses also gave Denise prizes for a raffle during a Ladies’ Night at the Clarendon pub in March, adding to her impressive total. Denise, 45, a nursery worker at Footprints Nursery, in Tees Street, Hartlepool, was one of 5,000 runners chosen out of 47,000 hopefuls for the Olympic Stadium run. The mum of four said: “I wanted to make it worthwhile and something memorable. “The ideal thing was for North Tees ...

Before They Were Blockbusters
Lez Get Real - almost 5 years
X-Men Both DC Comics and Marvel would have you think that big-budget, blockbuster films like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, Green Lantern and The Avengers are their only attempts to bring popular comic book characters into the live-action arena. They would like everyone to forget the sometimes absurd, ridiculous and often ugly reality: that there were numerous early – and failed – attempts to bring super heroes to both the big and small screens. You can read about these early superhero attempts and the actors who portrayed them on-screen. Some you may be familiar with, but we’ll bet you’ve never heard of many of them. {NOTE: This list doesn’t cover every instance of every superhero who has ever appeared on TV or in a direct-to-video movie – that would be far too exhaustive. Instead, we’ve covered only those superheroes who have a movie already released, in development or will have one in development soon.} Superman  ’Superman’: First Theatrical Release – 1978 1948 ...

Less than a year later, she returned home and entered the Miss Maryland beauty pageant, a preliminary event to the Miss American Pageant, itself the final preliminary event to the Miss International contest, to be held in Long Beach, California, in mid-June 1965.Harrison won the contest over nineteen other girls, and in June 1965, as Miss Maryland, she traveled to California for the Miss American contest.

Nevertheless, her striking good looks and hourglass figure gained the notice of Mike Medavoy, then a superagent at the General Artist Corporation. "You ought to be in pictures," Medavoy told her. Shortly thereafter, Medavoy obtained a screen test for her at 20th Century Fox. Harrison was initially signed to a sixty-day option agreement. She starred as Paulette Douglas, a starlet under contract to a major movie studio, in the short-lived NBC TV series Bracken's World (1969–1970), which also featured Laraine Stephens and Karen Jensen in similar roles.
