Obituary for Thomas Patrick Howard
Baoadneck Patch - over 4 years
Obituary courtesy of Barranco & Sons P.A. Funeral Home in Severna Park. Family and friends of Tom Howard, as well as the many members of Anne Arundel County’s recovery community, are mourning the loss of a good man, a trusted friend, and a valued mentor. At the same time, however, they are celebrating a life well lived and a legacy of prodigious progeny (Tom loved to use big words) and the lasting value of family and service to others. Born November 19, 1927, in Philadelphia to Thomas P. and Margaret M. Howard, Tom grew up as the middle child among five. He attended grade school at St. Agatha’s and then St. Thomas Moore High School. After graduation in 1945, Tom served in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines before the end of WWII. He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia and worked briefly in the area before meeting the love of his life, Peggy Love of Upper Darby. Together they raised nine children, and as Tom’s career in personnel management with the ...

Surprise defeat for mixed team
Fenland Citizen - almost 5 years
Wisbech 9, Colchester 1 Wisbech ended their East Premier B campaign on a high with a rout against lowly Colchester to finish in fourth place. Sam Blunt bagged two trademark reverse stick goals to give Wisbech an early lead before Brad Apted popped up for a close range finish. The sides exchanged penalty stroke goals, Joe Melton grabbing Wisbech’s to leave the half time score 4-1. Wisbech dominated the second half and could have scored many more than the five they did. Blunt completed his reverse hat-trick, two goals from Dan Martell and one each from Gavin Johnstone and Sam Markille gave the scoreline a deservedly emphatic look. Wisbech 1, Norwich City 2 (golden goal) Last year’s runners-up Wisbech were agonisingly knocked out of the Mixed Plate competition by a golden goal with just minutes remaining. It had been a pulsating game with both goalkeepers keeping their sides in the game. Dan Martell opened the scoring midway through the first half but this was soon cancelled out. ...

Polished Peruvian
The Portland Mercury - almost 5 years
Fresh, Focused Peruvian at Las Primas by Chris Onstad It was news to me that Asian flavors occasionally inform Peruvian cuisine—but ever since Andy Rooney died, I take my facts where I can get them. In this case, it was at the restaurant Las Primas Peruvian Kitchen, a polished, casual eatery in a rectilinear but welcoming new space on North Williams. The won ton skins on the menu prompted a guarded probing of the cashier—guarded because I was fearful that nearby Chef Catalina Acuña, hair up and buttoned down in her spotless professional whites, would overhear the alarming breadth of my ignorance and wonder when I was going to start ordering Crunchwrap Supremes. Indeed, subtly integrated hints of China can be found on Las Primas' diverse menu of sandwiches and sides. In a nationally celebrated Chinese-Peruvian fusion cuisine known as chifa, soy sauce-marinated meats often feature in aromatic stir-fries, and the emblematic roasted pol ...
