These 16 Great Videos Remind Us What It Meant To Be LGBTQ In 2016
Huffington Post - about 2 months
2016 will be remembered as a particularly challenging year for many people, including those in the LGBTQ community. The June 12 Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida and the controversy surrounding transgender “bathroom bills” in states like North Carolina left many queer people feeling vulnerable. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s surprise election victory in November cast a grim shadow on the future of LGBTQ rights after a series of progressive strides under President Barack Obama. The year’s uncertainty was, of course, reflected on countless social media outlets. These 16 incredible videos ― which made a splash on Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets over the past year ― represent 12 months of LGBTQ trials and tribulations, as well as the community’s cheeky sense of humor. A few same-sex couples gave us life (and fitness) goals by organizing heartfelt proposals at the gym. An iconic “Mean Girls” scene got a hilarious, all-male redux in support of Hillary Clinto ...

The Week In Arts & Culture
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Greetings, dear readers! This week we were seething with jealousy over memorabilia from Studio 54 but then became hopeful for future soirees thanks to PS1's Party Wall. Confused? Read on... In her memoir Lorna Luft famously wrote: "Studio 54 made Halloween in Hollywood look like a PTA meeting." The renown nightclub, located on 254 West 54th Street, drew the hottest who's who of the New York elite. Only at Studio 54 could one spot Andy Warhol posing with Brooke Shields, Truman Capote dancing at Elizabeth Taylor's birthday, or Cher getting cuddly with club co-owner Steve Rubell. Rubell founded Studio 54 with Ian Schrager in 1977, years before AIDS would decimate New York nightlife. The parties would grow to intrigue the world's most idolized celebrities with the most jaw-dropping decor -- one New Year's party involved four tons of glitter, for instance. On January 19, Rubell's archives from Studio 54 will hit the auction block at Palm Beach Modern Auctions. Thi ...

Stage Review: At North Shore Music Theatre, a ‘Hello, Dolly!’ with shifted focus
Boston Globe - over 4 years
A slightly shifted focus in ‘Hello, Dolly!’ When Lorna Luft, North Shore Music Theatre’s original diva of choice for this production of “Hello, Dolly!,” was sidelined in May by a back injury, it afforded the opportunity for a slightly different approach. It turns out that Luft’s replacement, the capable and confident Broadway veteran Jacquelyn Piro Donovan, doesn’t — unlike many a Dolly — hog the spotlight.

Lorna Luft to Bring Judy Garland to Life at Edmonds Center for the Arts
Edmonds Patch - almost 5 years
Best-selling author, recording artist and Emmy-nominated producer Lorna Luft will perform Friday at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. Luft, who began her career at age 11 on her mother Judy Garland’s television show, will pay tribute to Garland in a multi-media production. The show combines familiar songs with Luft's personal memories. Born to Garland and producer Sid Luft, Lorna at 16 shared the bill with her mother on Broadway in a month-long concert engagement at New York's famed Palace Theater. By 19, she was starring in Broadway on her own in Neil Simon’s hit musical Promise Promises, and has continued to tour and perform on and off Broadway, on the London theater stage and in many regional and national touring theater presentations. In 1998 she decided it was time to share her personal story of life with Garland and published Me and My Shadows, which spent nine weeks on the New York Times best-seller list. In 20 ...
