Holmes and English share lead at Torrey Pines

Holmes joined overnight leader Harris English atop the Farmers Insurance Open leaderboard following the third round at Torrey Pines on Saturday. Holmes put together a four-under 68 on the tough South course to move to nine-under 207 for the tournament while English finished with a 73. Former U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover (70), recent Sony Open winner Jimmy Walker (70) and fellow Americans Spencer Levin (70), Chad Campbell (70) and Nick Watney (72) shared third at eight-under.

By Ben Everill LA JOLLA, California (Reuters) - A costly double bogey for Harris English on his fourth hole has created a tight leaderboard midway through the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines on Saturday. When English missed a bogey putt, the 25-year-old dropped to nine under where he remained through nine holes to share the lead with fellow American Spencer Levin (10 holes). Chad Campbell, who aced the par-three third hole, joined recent Sony Open champion Jimmy Walker, former U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover and Americans Nick Watney and JB Holmes in a tie for third at eight under.

Barclays deal extended to host at Bethpage Black

Bethpage Black, one of America's top public golf courses, will host to The Barclays, a US PGA playoff event, in 2021 and 2027, New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday. The state park layout that opened in 1936 has already hosted the 2002 US Open won by Tiger Woods and the 2009 US Open won by Lucas Glover. The Barclays was first staged there in 2012 and also will be played there again next year. "We are proud to welcome The Barclays back for two more tournaments," Cuomo said of the extension deal.

Glover was one of just a handful of players who won the U.S. Open after having to play in a sectional qualifier. He shot a second round 64, tying the low round of the week with Mike Weir. Glover entered the final round one stroke behind 54-hole leader Ricky Barnes but in tough conditions on Monday's final round, both Glover and Barnes struggled. Coming to the 16th hole, Glover was 4 over for the day without a birdie but that would soon change. He hit his approach shot to within 6 feet of the hole and made the putt to take a lead he would not relinquish. After sinking a 3 foot putt for par on 18, Glover won by a margin of two strokes. The win propelled him to 18th in the world rankings.
