In an interview with her sister Veronica del Castillo for Univision's “Primer Impacto,” the artist confessed she hasn’t been lucky in the love arena, but that does not mean she has any regrets about the decisions she has made in the past. David Stark: Migguel Anggelo: A Real Artist
Huffington Post - about 4 years
I am fascinated and inspired by real artists -- real artists who are not driven by money, ladder climbing or trends, but are focused on their unique visions regardless of what the world thinks. These people create simply because they have to. Migguel Anggelo is such an artist. Yes, I am close to him, but I am still blown away by his vision -- so free of what is going on in the pop-music world, so free of commercial intentions. I was honored to help bring his show to life recently at the New World Center in Miami and thought it would be fun to share a little of his inspiring background. How did you get involved in music and performing and when? Migguel Anggelo: Since I was an infant, I've been obsessed with music. My father, a chef, was constantly singing and listening to music while tending to his own craft in the kitchen, while my mother, a ballet dancer, always danced around the house to Spanish boleros or classical music. At age 13, I saw an ad for an audition for a ...

Merkel insists on austerity despite protests
Fox News - over 4 years
German Chancellor Angela Merkel took her fiscal discipline message to bailed-out Portugal on Monday, tolerating Nazi jibes from a small group of protesters as she advocated the benefits of austerity and economic reforms. As in her recent trips to bailed-out Greece and debt-stricken Spain, demonstrators unhappy about tax hikes and pay cuts devised to improve public finances turned their anger on the German leader. Portugal needed a €78 billion ($99 billion) rescue last year when it was engulfed by the eurozone's debt crisis, and living standards have dropped sharply. A protest march in Lisbon featured dummies with Merkel's face and with T-shirts saying "Adolf Merkel" and including a swastika. Banners said "Merkel Nazi, Go Away!" and, in German, "Merkel Raus" (Merkel Out). "I think it's wrong what they are doing," said Luis Miguel, an actor who was carrying puppets representing Merkel and Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho. "It's ...

Claims Wal-Mart used bribery campaign to spur expansion cause little outrage in Mexico
Fox News - almost 5 years
Allegations that U.S. retail giant Wal-Mart used bribes to speed its break-neck Mexican expansion are sparking some soul-searching in Mexico, but not the outrage that the scandal has provoked in the United States. While Wal-Mart says it is probing the allegations and U.S. Congress members are demanding answers, Mexican authorities say they have nothing to investigate. The charges have, however, focused fresh attention on Mexico's long-entrenched culture of bribery, a place where crowded government offices remain the working grounds of shadowy facilitators known as "gestores." Although Mexicans are aware such payoffs occur, most would prefer to pretend it doesn't exist. Wal-Mart's bribes in Mexico "are a scandal in the United States," Luis Miguel Gonzalez, editorial director of El Economista newspaper noted in a Monday column. "Here we live in a different way. Tony Phillips: Rick Santorum Is a Better Father Than I
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
I read over the weekend that Bella Santorum, three-year-old daughter of Rick and Karen, is now a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. My Canadian friend and I were in Mexico at the time, which is slightly ironic because handguns are illegal in Canada as they are in Mexico and for the benefit of those who cross into Mexico from San Diego there's ample signage to announce the fact. As one draws nearer the Mexican border from the north, one is reminded more and more flagrantly each quarter-mile or so that one had best leave one's Glock behind because the Mexican authorities don't play. They catch you with a piece and you're in for some most un-amicable consequences, the sort of consequences a gringo fears like a Brit fears an orthodontist. But what do the Mexicans know? Look at that country, torn as it is by the wanton violence of a cash-fueled drug trade that contributed to probably 40,000 murders from 2006 to 2010. That's 10,000 dead each year, mostly from guns ...
