'Crazy Eyes' review: Truth is sometimes painful
San Francisco Chronicle - over 4 years
'Crazy Eyes' review: Truth is sometimes painful [...] there are the relationships that people often find themselves in, that never get movies made about them, because they are pointless and repetitive, despite all their drama and passion. "Crazy Eyes" is about the second kind of relationship, the kind no one writes poems or novels about, the kind folks get enough of in real life. Lukas Haas plays a rich young jerk, in the early stages of alcoholism, who gets into a peculiar drinking-buddy relationship with a woman he calls Crazy Eyes (Madeline Zima). Without the movie ever saying it, the protagonist, who pretends not to care about money, is all about the money - flaunting it, flashing and using it to pick up women who would otherwise have nothing to do with him. The draining, suffocating, sickening party that follows this young man is really following the money, and there will always be people willing to follow the money.

Marshall Fine: Movie Review: Crazy Eyes
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Crazy Eyes was spawned by the same boozy mentality (and, sometimes, sentimentality) that has inspired the work of everyone from Dylan Thomas to Charles Bukowski. If Adam Sherman's film, now in limited release, occasionally wobbles under the delusion that alcoholics are actually visionaries and their bad behavior comprises the antics of a demented genius, well, it doesn't do so very often. Instead, Sherman's tale of Adam, an increasingly self-destructive young electronics gazillionaire (by all appearances) played by Lukas Haas, has a certain belligerent charm. That charm may prove elusive to some viewers, but stick with it. Adam's not a bad guy, just a lazy one. He obviously got too much, too soon. He doesn't have to work for a living and doesn't want to have to work for it anymore -- woman-wise -- if he doesn't have to. He's got an ex-wife and a son he sees when he remembers it's his day for shared custody. He spends most of his time hanging out at the dive bar whe ...

Review: 'Crazy Eyes': Superficial and uninteresting
LATimes - over 4 years
Adam Sherman's Bukowski-lite character study is one of those exercises in masculine self-pity and glib misogyny that frustrates because of its shortsightedness. There's laser-like concentration to the indie "Crazy Eyes" — about a rich, young Hollywood Hills hedonist named Zach (Lukas Haas) whose myriad seductions leave him empty — but that doesn't mean the sphere of vision is terribly interesting.
