Malaika Arora Khan reproaches the item girl tag
The Express Tribune Blogs - about 3 years
Actor Malaika Arora Khan, who has made us move and groove to her dance numbers, is the undisputed queen of contemporary item songs. With cameo appearances in songs like Chaiyya Chaiyya, Munni Badnam Hui and Anarkali Disco Chali, she has never failed to bring out the dancer in us. And it’s fitting to know that the B-town bombshell isn’t just a great dancer, she is also disapproving of terms that trivialise women in the industry. She raises a pertinent thought in an interview, “I don’t like the term ‘item girl’. Why not look at it [item song] as a ‘special’ song – a song that is creating hype and [is meant for the purpose of] entertainment?” she said, according to the Times of India. Malaika is undeterred by mainstream actors, such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif, having jumped on the ‘item number’ bandwagon. “There is enough work for everyone. Everybody has a role or part to play, if somebody fits t ...

Kat-fight continues with no end in sight
The Express Tribune Blogs - over 3 years
Arguments, feuds and cat fights seem to prevail in the Indian film industry. And this time, it’s a Kat-fight that has surfaced! Katrina Kaif, India’s Barbie doll and Malaika Arora-Khan, probably the hottest woman in the country, have been emitting some serious hate vibes in the past few years. We wonder if the two lovely ladies will ever be able to put their differences aside and act like mature women. Katrina and Malaika have never really gotten along, and history repeated itself during Kat’s visit to the Khan residence for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. It’s a well known fact that Malaika didn’t acknowledge Katrina during her long-term relationship with actor Salman Khan, but she never let things get out of hand. However, now that their relationship is clearly over, in lieu of Katrina’s holiday pictures with actor Ranbir Kapoor leaking online, Malaika feels no need to put up a false front. “Katrina still drops by at Salman’s place often and sh ...

Dabangg 2
Bollywood Hungama - over 4 years
EXPECTATIONS Really, one doesn't have to think much before setting any expectations from the music of Dabangg 2. You know the genre it would belong to, the audience it would target, the winning formula it would try to replicate and the element of fun that would be at the core of it all. Just like one associates certain kind of music coming from the house of Bhatts, even Salman Khan and Sajid-Wajid combination carries its unique identity as well. As long as one gets that, rest assured the strong fan-base of Salman, which is especially strong in the interiors, is expected to be content. With Dabangg 2 aiming at that very segment, you are pretty much sure about the brief that Arbaaz Khan must have given to Sajid-Wajid and lyricists Sameer, Jalees Sherwani, Ashraf Ali and Irfan Kamal. MUSIC One can see that there is an obvious attempt by the makers to replicate musical situations from Dabangg as-is in the film's sequel as well. They don't even attempt to conceal this endeavour and t ...

Chitrangada, Neha Dhupia and Arbaaz shave and join the Gillette Fusion
Central Chronicle - almost 5 years
Drama ensued when an exchange of dialogue between Chitrangada Singh and Arbaaz Khan threw light on the difference of grooming etiquette that exists between men and women. Few minutes into the conversation the decibels rose and tension peaked between the two on stage as Chitrangada insisted that it is time men make a little effort by simply shaving every day if not then women too will stop dolling up for their boyfriends and husbands. Suddenly then a group of 150 women led by Neha Dhupia barged in to the venue protesting against shady stubble crying out slogans of ‘You Shave, I Shave’. The women were of the opinion that men do not take grooming seriously and take their women for granted and vowed to shave only if men make the simple effort of shaving every day. This demand was met and scores were settled when Bollywood hunk Arbaaz Khan took up a Gillette Fusion Razor and got himself a perfect shave. Neha too didn’t hesitate to pick up the Gillette Satin Care razor to give herself t ...

Housefull 2
Bollywood Hungama - almost 5 years
By and large, what kind of anticipation does one have from the new installment of a successful franchise? Also, the query that crosses one's mind is, will the new installment offer better-quality entertainment, will it promise guffaws and belly laughs [in this case] and in turn, prove to be a money spinner at the ticket window? HOUSEFULL 2 has a massive cast -- it retains a few names from the first part [Akshay, Riteish, Boman Irani], but has a number of entrants as well [John, Shreyas, Asin, Jacqueline, Shazahn, Zarine, Rishi, Randhir, Mithun] -- and it's, obviously, bigger in scale. Besides, like the first part, the new installment has most of the drama happening inside a mansion. The only aspect that doesn't change is Sajid Khan's objective of providing entertainment. Get amused, have ample laughs and exit the auditorium grinning from ear to ear, that's his funda. HOUSEFULL 2 belongs to the same school of zany comedies that gave us NO ENTRY, WELCOME, the GOLMAAL series and ...
