Weekend TV: Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire Finales Seattle Post-Intelligencer Copyright 2012 Seattle Post-Intelligencer. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Published 7:36 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2012 The Walking Dead midseason finale, ominously titled "Made to Suffer" and written by comics and series co-creator Robert Kirkman, promises a showdown between the people of Woodbury, led by the deceptively folksy but privately tormented Governor (an impressive David Morrissey), and the rescue party from the prison, led by tragic hero Sheriff Rick (Emmy-worthy Andrew Lincoln). Rick's crew is determined to save the captured Glenn and Maggie (Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan) from a fate possibly worse than death - and seriously, if anything dire ever happens to this young couple, that might be the last straw for me - but they have no idea that their former ally Andrea (Laurie Holden) is with ...

Boardwalk Empire: Nucky Strikes Back! Seattle Post-Intelligencer Copyright 2012 Seattle Post-Intelligencer. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Published 5:29 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 Never the most slap-happy of protagonists, Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the bootlegging kingpin of the show's 1920s Atlantic City, has been paying dearly for a couple of jaw-dropping twists in last year's finale: his ruthless execution of surrogate son and right-hand man Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) and the spiteful decision of his do-gooding wife, Margaret (Kelly Macdonald), to sign over their invaluable parcel of shoreline real estate to the Catholic Church. [...] at a price to his domestic life, his business and maybe his sanity, as his execution of Jimmy - the comeuppance to the latter's conspiring against him - has been haunting him through nightmares and hallucinations. Says Buscemi, ...

Titanic's Centennial: A Profile of Passengers
Alameda Patch - almost 5 years
Editor's note: Several of Alameda Patch's "sister sites" in Connecticut ran a five-part series this week marking the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on April 14, 1912. Here is an excerpt from the series, a poignant look at Connecticut-bound passengers aboard the ill-fated ship. You can read more of the series on Oxford Patch, Naugatuck Patch  and other Connecticut Patch sites. Margaret Kelly, the eldest daughter of James Kelly of Kildare County in Ireland, had been working in a corset factory in New Haven for two years when, in early 1912, she bought her father a third-class ticket to come across the Atlantic on the maiden voyage of the Titanic and visit her. The plan was that James would work for a while and save enough money to send for his wife, Kate, and his five other children to join them. But the reunion never happened, cut short by one of the worst maritime disasters in history. Kelly's body was found by the cable ship Mackay-Bennett and buried at sea. ...

Titanic Centennial: Connecticut-Bound Passengers
Middletown Patch - almost 5 years
Margaret Kelly, the eldest daughter of James Kelly of Kildare County in Ireland, had been working in a corset factory in New Haven for two years when, in early 1912, she bought her father a third-class ticket to come across the Atlantic on the maiden voyage of the Titanic and visit her. The plan was that James would work for a while and save enough money to send for his wife, Kate, and his five other children to join them. But the reunion never happened, cut short by one of the worst maritime disasters in history. Kelly's body was found by the cable ship Mackay-Bennett and buried at sea. The heartbreak for the Kelly family didn't end there — his son, Thomas, was killed in action four years later during World War I. Eventually, Kate and the rest of the Kelly children did emigrate to New Haven, where Margaret wept when she saw them at Union Station. Of the 1,296 passengers aboard the Titanic, 33 of them had tickets that had a town or city in Connecticut listed as their d ...
