Albums in the Stream: St. Even, Log Across the Washer, Towering Trees, Dan Lurie, Carcrashlander
The Portland Mercury - about 3 years
Set your browsers to stream. Here are a bunch of local albums you can listen to in full, mostly via Bandcamp: St. Even by St. Even St. Even's self-titled second album was released late last year in a uber-super-limited edition. I wrote about it then; Party Damage has just re-released it so that more people can hear it. It's a superb album from start to finish. You can listen to it in its entirety on Bandcamp, and it's also now available on Rdio and Spotify, so there's no excuse. Listen to "A Light Goes on in My Car" above, then check the whole album out. St. Even—the nom de record of Steve Hefter—will play a release show for the album this Sunday at Mississippi Studios, opening for Maria Taylor. • • • Moons (mono) by Log Across The Washer Log Across the Washer—AKA the super prolific Tyler Keene, formerly of And And And—drops albums like breadcrumbs in the woods, and his latest, Moons is a scrapbook of low-key sketches with more than a few real avant-pop wonders tucked in there. Hannah Saunders: Rebel Rebel - Turning a Mid-Life Crisis Into a Business Proposition
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Major life change is a deeply unsettling experience but it can also inspire creativity. I worked for 20 years as a central government civil servant, devising and delivering policies for a succession of ministers of varying political hues, personalities and foibles. I joined as the most junior manager and climbed the professional ladder purposefully until becoming a senior civil servant in the Home Office. A mandarin. I was in charge of projects spending millions of pounds of tax-payers' money and responsible for hundreds of people's work. But behind this professional civil-service front beats a heart of rock 'n' roll. I love music. In a proper, mad way. I love some tunes like my teenage self loved boys - with a furious, take-no-prisoners passion. I spent the early '80s pouring over sleeve notes in my bedroom and shuffling about at proto-indie discos to punk, goth and the Smiths, but my real life-changing moment came in 1988 when I fell head over heels for acid house. ...

LOOK: 007's Legacy In Posters
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Like many "Bondologists," Herring & Haggis got swept up in the days leading up to the release of "Skyfall." The Jacksonville, Florida based design company set a challenge for themselves -- to design one poster a day for each film in the franchise for 23 days until the release of the 23rd Bond film. The idea sprung from a viewing of "Dr. No," which happened to fall on 50th anniversary of the film, after which Clif Watson and Maria Taylor, designed to do a silk-screened poster for each Bond film. "We agreed early on that we would avoid the typical Bond marketing subject matter. No girls, cars, guns or martini glasses allowed!" Watson told the Daily Heller. Instead Herring & Haggis wanted a more minimalist style that would allow them to complete the posters in less than a month. Watson says that the initial response from fans of his posters made time crunch worth while: "Knowing that people are finding valuable wall space to dedicate to framing and hanging our a ...
