Thank You President Barack Obama!
Huffington Post - 4 months
Eight years to the day (November 4, 2008), 92% White and 3% Black Iowans gave Kenyan-American Barack Hussein Obama 38% of the votes in the 2008 Iowa Caucus thereby sending the man derisively called the "junior senator from Illinois" on his way to an extremely hard-fought and character-building victory over the New York Senator and former First Lady Hillary R. Clinton in the Democratic Party Primary. Barack Obama's victory over Hillary Clinton set the stage for what should have been an equally hard fight against the Republican Party nominee and decorated war hero John McCain. That never happened. Vividly illustrating the inability to "walk and chew gum at the same time", John McCain stumbled from selecting the hitherto unknown Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate to "suspending his campaign" even as he declared that the then-free falling US economy was "fundamentally sound". In one fell swoop, the "maverick" captain of the "Straight-talk Express" became an answer t ...

President Barack Obama jumpstarted the holiday season Thursday, lighting the National Christmas Tree but also appealing to Americans to "come together as brothers and sisters" a day after 14 people were shot to death in California. "This is of course the most wonderful time of the year, but we would be remiss not to take a moment to remember our fellow Americans whose hearts are heavy tonight, who grieve for loved ones, especially in San Bernardino, California," Obama said. Moments earlier, the president, his wife, Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha, and his mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, together flipped a switch and illuminated the Christmas tree near the White House.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is continuing an annual family tradition by helping to pack bags of food and distribute them to the needy on Thanksgiving eve. Obama, his wife, Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha and his mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, dropped in on the Capital Area Food Bank, one of the largest serving the Washington area. They dropped bundles of sweet potatoes, onions, carrots and apples into reusable bags people held open as they walked by. They also handed out small white boxes stamped with the presidential seal that contain M&M's candy. Obama wished people a "Happy Thanksgiving," and Malia shook their hands. It's the third straight Thanksgiving that Obama and his family have helped out at this particular food bank. Obama was spending the holiday at the White House.

Etan Thomas: Celebrities Inspire a Fatherhood Movement
Huffington Post Sports - almost 4 years
Since the release of my book Fatherhood Rising To The Ultimate Challenge last year, I have traveled the country to encourage young people who they can be anything they want to be in life no matter what their circumstances. It always amazes me how much hearing that message from an athlete or rapper or actor they recognize resonates with them. It's the reason why I started a fatherhood movement and connected with a wide a range of men to give personal accounts about responsibility, triumphs, struggles and what it takes for young people to succeed. This fatherhood movement has been rapidly growing. What's reaffirming to me is that the young men who we encounter want to do something with their lives -- they want to make the right decisions, they want to have an impact on the world. They just are looking for guidance. That fact is sometimes lost on many who still see young people as the scourge of society. But at a recent fatherhood panel during the NBA All Star Week ...

Obama, dressed in a suit, followed and planted himself opposite the chief justice. His wife, Michelle, and daughters Malia and Sasha, rounded out the tableau. Roberts asked Obam ...
