Mario Lopez Ends Those 'Live With Kelly' Co-Hosting Rumors
Huffington Post - 5 months
Ever since Michael Strahan’s controversial exit from “Live,” rumors have been flying about who is going to replace him. One of the subjects of those whispers is Bayside graduate Mario Lopez. Lopez has been a guest co-host on the show before, and was cheeky when Ellen DeGeneres asked him about the possibility of joining Kelly Ripa back in April. But unfortunately, A.C. Slater is officially tapping out. Lopez confirmed to The Huffington Post that the rumors are now just rumors. “No, I mean those were flattering and very sweet, but I’m here in LA, and I’ve already got a couple jobs and my family here. But she’s awesome. I’d love to go back and hang with her anytime,” said Lopez. The jobs he’s referring to, hosting “Extra” and a radio show, aren’t enough to keep him away from another new project, however. Lopez is partnering with Box Tops for Education in honor of the program’s 20th birthday. You can see the actor starring as a gym teacher in Box Tops’ new “Don’t Be Absent fr ...

How The New 'Hamilton' Cast Made A True Believer Out Of A Skeptic
Huffington Post - 7 months
You can be highbrow. You can be lowbrow. But can you ever just be brow? Welcome to Middlebrow, a weekly examination of pop culture. Sign up to receive it in your inbox weekly.   “Hamilton” has won almost too many awards, too much acclaim, too many rapturous public testaments to its life-changing power, not to entice pushback. So, of course, it has: Historians have substantively criticized various aspects of the musical, inspired by Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton. One article argued that the show doesn’t even pass the Bechdel test, a conclusion which requires a highly unforgiving interpretation of the “The Schuyler Sisters,” in which Angelica and Eliza Schuyler first appear and take in the revolutionary atmosphere in the streets of New York. Then there are the more personal reactions, all the more insistent because everyone else loves the show. Musician Laurie Anderson told The Atlantic that she had to leave after Act I: “It’s history lite, and musical lit ...

Okay, time out everybody. A new  Saved By The Bell- themed diner and bar is coming to Chicago’s Wicker Park to help you relive your childhood ’90s nostalgia, reports the Chicagoist. It is reportedly not connected to NBC, which aired the program, nor the production company Rysher Entertainment. But it’s sure to dredge up some nostalgia, and maybe even attract a guest star or two. Steve Harvey Crowns The Wrong Miss Universe In Awkward Live TV Gaffe
Huffington Post - about 1 year
For two whole minutes on Sunday night, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez celebrated what she believed to be her victory at the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant. With tears in her eyes and a gleaming crown on her head, she waved and smiled at the crowd, her national flag gripped in her hand. But Gutierrez’s celebration was suddenly, and awkwardly, interrupted by pageant host Steve Harvey. Harvey, it turned out, had announced the wrong contestant. Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach had, in fact, won the crown. “Uh, I have to apologize,” a visibly-unsettled Harvey told the still-cheering crowd. “The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.” As footage of the event showed, the moments following Harvey’s clarification were marked by utter confusion and shock. A visibly-stunned Wurtzbach walked to the front of the stage, her eyes wide in disbelief. Once more in the spotlight, she stood for several awkward seconds next to the still-crowned Gutierrez, both see ...

Southern California Finds Itself Waist-Deep In Mud After Thunderstorms
Huffington Post - over 1 year
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A section of Southern California found itself waist-deep in mud as the weekend arrived, and a highway overtaken with by flowing debris looked like a buried junkyard of hundreds of cars that would likely take days to dig up. The worst of the thunderstorms had passed, but the continued chance of rain could dampen cleanup and relief efforts in northern Los Angeles County's Antelope Valley, where the most serious slides occurred. On Friday, rescuers and those stranded in the highway debris flow described a chaotic scene that somehow left no reported injuries or deaths. "It was terrifying," 51-year-old Rhonda Flores of Bakersfield told The Associated Press. "It was a raging river of mud. I've never experienced anything like it, ever." Rescuers threw ladders and tarps across mud up to 6 feet deep to help the hundreds of trapped people from cars that got caught in the roiling river of mud along State Route 58 about 30 miles east of Bakersfield, a major truckin ...
