Dedication paid off
Guardian - almost 5 years
We already know there are a great team of police officers and staff here at Worksop, but this week I’d like to commend the excellent and tenacious work of one particular officer. Thanks to 18 months of dedicated efforts by Carlton-in-Lindrick beat manager PC John Graham, a drug dealer and his illegal trade has been removed from our villages. Last week Richard Caldwell, of Knaton Street, was sentenced to four years and three months imprisonment for Class A and Class B drug offences. From arrest to sentencing, PC Graham has been painstakingly thorough in what has been an extremely complex investigation. This was sterling work by PC Graham and his colleagues and the significant jail term Caldwell received is testament to these efforts. Be assured that we leave no stone unturned in the fight to rid West Bassetlaw of illegal drugs. We do not tolerate any activity of this nature and are determined to bring to justice those who damage our communities in this manner. Another scourge ...

Leeds University scientists to study city’s insect life
Yorkshire Evening Post - almost 5 years
Scientists from Leeds University are out to prove their net worth with a study of insect life in the city. More than 100 parks, gardens, allotments, cemeteries and other habitats will be examined as part of a three-year, £1.3m research project. It will aim to establish how bees, hoverflies and other pollinating insects are affected by life in urban areas. Research assistant Mark Goddard said: “Populations of bees and other pollinating insects are declining. Cities can be important places for them. “We want to find out which parts of the city support which insects and what can we do to improve their habitats.” The United Nations has said there could be serious long-term consequences for global food supplies unless action was taken to halt the decline in bee numbers. Over the next few months, teams of ecologists will be counting plants and insects in green spaces across four UK cities, including Leeds. They will also be creating large flower meadows in 15 sites in public parks ...

Goddard's next role was for the three seasons of Lost in Space (1965–1968), in which he played Major Don West. There were two pilots shot for the series. The original 1965 pilot was much different from the pilot that aired and the episodes that followed in the actual series. There was a blossoming romance between Don West and Judy, the eldest daughter of the Robinson family, but it did not extend further than the first season. By the middle of the second season, the show took on a more comic tone. Plots increasingly drew on the mishaps of Dr. Zachary Smith (Jonathan Harris) and his friends who could always be counted upon to save him and all of the inhabitants of the Jupiter II — the Robot (Bob May) and Will Robinson (Bill Mumy), the youngest of the three Robinson children. Castmates included Guy Williams, the former star of Zorro (1957–59), as Professor John Robinson and the credited star of the series; June Lockhart, the former star of Lassie (1959–1964), as Dr. Maureen Robinson; Marta Kristen as elder daughter Judy Robinson, and Angela Cartwright (The Sound of Music as well as in the last seven seasons of the classic 1953-1964 Danny Thomas sitcom Make Room for Daddy), as younger daughter Penny Robinson.
