Black Lawmakers Turn Up the Heat On Obama Over Judicial Nominees Who Backed Voter ID Law, Confederate Flag
Mother Jones - about 3 years
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)—a group of African-American lawmakers in the House that defends the interests of minorities and people with low incomes—are planning to publicly chastise President Barack Obama this week over two of his judicial nominees who have backed racially offensive and discriminatory policies, and what they see as a lack of diversity amongst his judicial picks, The Hill reported Sunday. Obama has confirmed more African-Americans to the federal bench than any other president, but CBC lawmakers see an "appalling lack of African-American representation" amongst Obama's judicial nominees in Southern states such as Georgia, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) told The Hill. If Obama's nominees to the federal bench in Georgia are confirmed, there will only be one African-American district court judge in a state where 31 percent of the population is black. And some of Obama's nominees have "views… that reflect the regressive policies of the pa ...

Schumpeter: A tissue of lies
The Economist - over 4 years
CONTRACT disputes seldom produce courtroom drama. But the battle between BSkyB, a broadcaster, and Electronic Data Services (EDS), a software firm, was an exception. Mark Howard, Sky’s barrister, cross-examined Joe Galloway, an EDS executive, about his MBA from Concordia College in the US Virgin Islands. Mr Galloway recalled his student days in loving detail, from the college buildings to the hours he had spent sweating over his books. A few days later Mr Howard presented the court with an MBA certificate that his pet schnauzer had earned from the very same diploma mill. The clever schnauzer had even earned a higher mark than the EDS executive.People have always lied and cheated. And businesspeople may have lied and cheated more than most: in a survey of American graduate students, 56% of those pursuing an MBA admitted to having cheated in the previous year, compared with 47% of other students. Cynics will not be surprised that people in ties sometimes tell lies—remember Enro ...

Will Mitt Romney distance himself from Ted Nugent's violence-laced NRA diatribe? Riiiiiiight.
DAILY KOS - almost 5 years
Ted Nugent at the Gov. Rick Perry's inaugural ball.  (Via YouTube) Mark Howard at News Corpse got it exactly right. Right-wing psycho Ted Nugent's grotesque rant at the National Rifle Association conference in St. Louis this past weekend ran "the gamut from merely disrespectful to hostile to treasonous." But then his remarks were only slightly more outrageous than those that long-time NRA CEO Wayne La Pierre has been spouting. The question is, just as it was back at the beginning of March when Nugent had a phone call with Mitt Romney about endorsing him, will the candidate embrace this bilge or distance himself from it? Yes, that's rhetorical. Among Nugent's choicest comments: • "We've got four Supreme Court justices who don't believe in the constitution." • "If Barack Obama becomes the President in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year." • "We need to ride into the battlefield and chop their heads of in November." • "It's as Nazi Germany ...

Pentagon Produces Satellite Photos of 1994 Rwanda Genocide
Dissident Voice - almost 5 years
Eighteen years after the historic ’100 days of genocide’ in Rwanda the United States Government has suddenly produced never-before-seen satellite images to support the genocide extradition trial of a former Rwandan now U.S. citizen in New Hampshire (USA). The existence of satellite imagery from 1994 would enable the ‘international community’ to further explore heretofore hidden facts about the double presidential assassinations of April 6 or massacres committed before, during, and after 1994.  As the world commemorates the official Rwanda genocide story on the 18th anniversary of the Rwanda genocide, the people of Central Africa continue to suffer under the brutal terrorism of the Kagame military regime.  Instead of celebrating, we should be asking: who are the real victims and who are the real criminals, and what really happened in Rwanda? In his opening statements in a Concord, New Hampshire (USA) courthouse on February 23, 2012, federal prosecutor John Capin launched the U.S. gove ...
