10 Shows That Didn't Get Emmys Love, But Should Get Yours
Huffington Post - 5 months
There are many, many good television shows out there these days, and hardly enough time — or awards — to give them all their due. Plus, not everyone is going to agree on which of our current small-screen offerings are truly the best. While one person stumps for Rachel Bloom’s nuanced and hilarious delivery on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” another one could justifiably argue that Andrew Lincoln’s performance on “The Walking Dead” is truly where it’s at.  While Sunday night’s focus will be on the Emmy-nominated shows, actors, writers and co. at this year’s award ceremony, don’t forget to check out the worthy shows that fell short of nabbing a nod for 2016. Ladies and gentlemen, 10 shows for your Roku queue consideration. “Halt and Catch Fire” (AMC) What might sound a little hokey ― a show about Texas’ Silicon Prairie and the rise of personal computers in the 1980s ― ends up being deeply emotional and perfectly nerdy. First off, the opening credits of “Halt and Catch Fire” constitute ...

Rock Stars Unite for L.A. Cancer Benefit
Huffington Post - over 1 year
"Nice boys don't play rock 'n' roll," that's what W. Axl Rose sang back when Guns N' Roses covered Rose Tattoo's infectious tune years ago. There isn't much truth to that adage as musicians often band together for a good cause. Most recently, veteran player Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver) put together The Hellcat Saints who will debut at the El Rey Theatre on Tuesday, November 3 to benefit Rhonda's Kiss, a charity that raises money to help those who receive a diagnosis of any type of cancer but are unable to make ends meet for treatment and support. Joining Kushner will be fellow Saints Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) on bass; guitarists Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses); and drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle). Featuring a rotating lineup of singers, guests vocalists will include Billy Idol, Juliette Lewis, Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), and Ke$ha, among others. Comedian Bill Burr will kick start the night with a brash 3 ...

Crafting The Ultimate, 25-Song 90's Nostalgic Playlist
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Presented in partnership with BroBible.com. By Andy Moore This following article is the result of a text from a concerned friend, who, one month ago, informed me that my Spotify account had been simultaneously streaming on Facebook for a significant period of time. I did not know this. It wasn't pretty, my buddy said. He had watched me spend whole days replaying the Dave Matthews Band's live album "Live at Red Rocks." He had seen me listen to the incredibly average Sugar Ray song "Personal Space Invader" three times in a row. Hootie and the Blowfish represented the best of any band I'd been playing. I went back through my top-played list and saw the Gin Blossoms, Fastball and a lot more Sugar Ray songs topping anything that had been released in the last decade. I once was a guy who prided himself on not being afraid to explore new genres and artists. What the hell had happened to me? In short: I have no fucking clue. For some reason and at some point over the last tw ...

Sugar Ray regroups for Summerland nostalgia tour
San Francisco Chronicle - over 4 years
Sugar Ray regroups for Summerland nostalgia tour For those feeling nostalgic for the era of cloned sheep, beeping pagers and Thursday nights with Ross and Rachel, this year offers the ultimate package tour. Summerland features Sugar Ray, Everclear, Gin Blossoms, Lit and Marcy Playground - a solid sampling of acts that dominated pop radio in the 1990s. Calling from his Los Angeles home, singer Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray, whose hits include "Fly" and "Every Morning," tells us a tour like this was long overdue: "It's time to celebrate these songs." Is that tune popular around the McGrath household? [...] I try to go out and have a couple of beers with my friends, and the next day the hangover is like murder. People are like, "Dude, what happened to you?" Is that the real reason you decided to do this tour now? Among all the bands on the bill, we've got 20 songs that went to No. 1 or close to No. 1 on the pop charts. [...] doing a package tour, aren't you worri ...
