West Coast port dispute costing Honda 25,000 vehicles
Yahoo News - about 2 years
Honda Motor Co on Saturday praised an agreement to end a labor dispute at U.S. West Coast ports but said shipping delays will cost the company about 25,000 vehicles this month. Honda had been using air shipments from Japan to get some parts to its North American assembly lines and company spokesman Mark Morrison said it would continue doing so while port operations are ramped back up. "Next week our auto operations in Ohio will be back to full production beginning Tuesday." Honda factories in Indiana and Canada will be operating at lower production levels through March 2, he said. The company had estimated its five North American plants had lost production of 20,000 vehicles between Feb. 16 and 23 and expected to lose another 5,000.

Dan Reimold: Daily Texan Newsstands Not Allowed at Journalism School Due to 'Environmental Concerns'
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Administrators at the University of Texas have stopped The Daily Texan student newspaper from placing a newsstand inside or even near the new Belo Center for New Media, which houses UT's School of Journalism. The reason: "environmental concerns." Specifically, as Texan staff writer Bobby Blanchard reported, "The Belo Center for New Media is striving to achieve the 'silver certification' from U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Signage, banners, plaques and other forms of paper have also been banned from being posted outside the building." So it's not about the newsstand itself. It's about the newspapers that would be placed inside it. The restriction came from higher-level administrators with the university's College of Communications, not the journalism school faculty or director. UT School of Journalism director Glenn Frankel told the Texan he thinks the ban is a mistake. Adjunct lecturer Mark Morrison had an even st ...

Queen sends best wishes to pupils
Brighouse ECHO - over 4 years
A SCHOOL project has received the royal seal of approval. Lady-in-Waiting, Mary Morrison, replied to letters and posters sent in by children from Field Lane Primary School, Rastrick, about improving global warming. The letter reads: “The Queen wishes me to thank you for the letters which you have sent to Her Majesty. “The Queen was interested to know that you have been learning to write persuasive letters, and thought it kind of you to tell her your concern about the problem of global warming. “Her Majesty was pleased to hear how much you care about our planet and to see some of the posters you have designed. “Although the Queen does not have time to reply personally to all the hundreds of people who write to her each day, she was very glad to hear from you and from your teacher, Miss Moore. “Her Majesty sends you her good wishes and I hope you will understand that, because the Queen has received so many cards and letters in the past few months, it has not been possible to tha ...

RTM Approves $72.64 Million Education Budget
Groton Patch - almost 5 years
Representative Town Meeting approved a $72.64 million budget for the public schools Wednesday, a zero percent increase over the current fiscal year. The body also approved an investment in the next school construction referendum. The meeting voted 26-4, with 1 abstention, to approve the school budget. The largest area of spending is $46.8 million on salaries, slightly down from the current year due to consolidating staff. The budget includes no layoffs, and would consolidate from three to two middle schools. 'Nothing in stone' Two representatives said they were concerned about how schools would spend some of the money; for example, promoting staff to administrative jobs. Acting Superintendent Mary Anne Butler said the department would continue to review the budget after it is approved. “Please know that nothing is carved in stone and we are going to take a look at that,” she said. Enrollment in Groton Public Schools is projected to be relatively flat or slightly ...

Nashua Theatre Guild to present Simon’s ‘Laughter on the 23rd Floor’
Nashua Telegraph - almost 5 years
NASHUA – You may not want to wish the Nashua Theatre Guild’s “Laughter on the 23rd Floor” cast to break a leg. Cast members have plenty of stairs to climb before their performances this week at the Janice B. Streeter Theater. Neil Simon penned “Laughter on the 23rd Floor” during what’s called the “Golden Age of Comedy.” The play is based on Simon’s early career experiences as a writer for NBC’s 1950s TV program “Your Show of Shows,” which featured comedian Sid Caesar. “I was a big Sid Caesar fan, specially once I saw ‘Grease,’ ” said Mark Morrison, director of “Laughter on the 23rd Floor.” “I thought he was hilarious.” The play follows main character Max Prince, played by Richard Hurley, and his wild antics in the writers room for a fictional comedy/variety TV show. Prince struggles with NBC executives, who believe his jokes are too sophisticated for middle-class America.
