Checking In With Marla Gibbs: A Candid Interview With 'The Jeffersons' and '227' Star
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Marla Gibbs lives by the mantra "it's never too late." After becoming a household name 40 years ago as Florence, the sassy maid on The Jeffersons, Gibbs says that as long as she's still breathing, there will always be something new she'll want to explore. "God works with us through ideas. He gives us the idea. Then we have to have the faith and belief," she says. "We can only do how much we believe we can do. When things happen, all you really have to do is change your mind. When you change your mind, everything around you changes." At 84, she admits to only being 30. She believes that once people start telling their age, they begin seeing themselves in a particular way. Gibbs continues to keep active and didn't allow an aneurysm and a stroke nearly 10 years ago stop her. "Whatever is wrong can be fixed this day and age," she says. She also makes it a priority to never change sizes. With her feisty, trademark whit she shares, "Some people gain weight and say, 'Well, I'm a ...

Beth Einhorn on Being the Only Woman Writer for The Tonight Show
Huffington Post - about 3 years
It's well known that late night TV talk shows are a male-dominated field. As Jay Leno hands over The Tonight Show to Jimmy Fallon, I caught up with Beth Einhorn, who was the only female writer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for three years. Darryle Pollack: You've worked as a Writer/Producer/Director on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Chris Rock Show, The Man Show, the George Carlin Specials on HBO, Saturday Night Live. Tell me about getting hired as a writer for The Tonight Show. Beth Einhorn: Like other shows I've worked on, it was people I've previously worked with. In this case, two writers at the show, Anthony Caleca and Andy McElfresh, who recommended me and got me in to meet the head writer. Adam Carolla also recommended me which was very nice. The head writer looked at my website and brought me back to meet with Jay, and I was hired. DP: There haven't been many women in that job. BE: Yes, I think in the history of The Tonight Show there have only been six female writ ...

Tyler Perry, 'Madea's Witness Protection' Star And Director, On Fractured Audiences And Why He Was In 'Star Trek'
Moviefone Blog - over 4 years
On average, Tyler Perry's movies have grossed aproximately $23 million domestically ... on opening weekend alone. This average is a number that recent bigger budget films "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer," "Rock of Ages," and "That's My Boy" would have been thrilled with earning -- and Perry manages to succeed at a fraction of the cost. Sure, Perry has a comfort zone. He knows what movies his audience will enjoy -- like this weekend's offering, "Madea's Witness Protection." And he has a comfort zone when it comes to press, granting few interviews and keeping his private life very private. Perry will leave that comfort zone, however, something he seems more and more willing to do -- whether it's directing "For Colored Girls," appearing in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," presenting at the Tony Awards or starring in "Alex Cross." On Monday afternoon I met a game Perry in a hotel room on Manhattan's west side to talk about a wide ranging host of topics: From the future of Madea (as long as ...

Southland Renewed for Season 5 on TNT
Movies Web - almost 5 years
TNT announced today that it has renewed the L.A. police drama Southland for Season 5. Instead of issuing a standard press release announcing the news, TNT president Michael Wright sent out the following message, which recaps some of the memorable moments in Season 4. "I'm proud today to announce that TNT has ordered 10 episodes for a fifth season of Southland, scheduled to begin in February 2013. Season after season, critics and fans alike have championed TNT's Southland as one of television's best dramas. This year, the show has not only solidified its impassioned fan base, but also picked up some new young-adult devotees along the way. In its fourth season, Southland centered its focus on four primary characters played by four outstanding actors: Michael Cudlitz as Officer John Cooper, who bounced back from surgery and an addiction to painkillers only to be put under the microscope of a new partner. Shawn Hatosy as Officer Sammy Bryant, who chose to give up being a ...

Tyler Perry Is Back In Madea’s Witness Protection
Dr Jay's - almost 5 years
On the heels of Good Deeds, released earlier this year and heralded by several of Tyler Perry fans as his best work to date, Perry will put the fatsuit, glasses, dress, and pearls back on for his latest romp as his most famous character, Madea. This one is quite a bit different from the usual urban-based drama you find in a Madea flick. This one features a suburban twist (which is somewhat reminiscent of Big Momma’s House 2). Here’s the rundown. An elite CFO of a multi-million dollar company is framed as the perpetrator of a large-scale Ponzi scheme. In order to protect himself and his family, the executive enters the witness protection program which sends him to – you guessed it – Madea’s home in Atlanta! Along with the titular matriarch, Tyler Perry will be reprising his roles as Joe, Madea’s brother and Brian, Joe’s son and the family lawyer. The rest of the cast, although highly recognizable, is not nearly as predictable. Including Eugene Levy, Denise Richards, Doris Rob ...
