Cageside Seats - over 3 years
Previously on Impact Wrestling Kurt Angle and Sting of the Main Event Mafia (MEM) welcomed new TNA World champion Chris Sabin to the show. Sabin challenged the winner of the scheduled Ultimate X match for his old X Division belt to a "Champion vs. Champion" match on tonight's show. Former world titleholder (but still President of Aces and Eights) Bully Ray demanded that his belt be returned to him by the end of the night, or he'd take it out on TNA like real bikers do - with THE LAW! Each of the Ultimate X participants got a hype video, but in addition to being the only guy under contract, Manik's was just a little bit cooler. Guess who won? It was a well-worked, entertaining match that should have been the main event. Bound for Glory series action abounded as Christopher Daniels (21 points), Mr. Anderson (14 points) and AJ Styles (22 points) all won their matches. Mickie James retained her Knockouts title in a decent match with Gail Kim that wasn't quite as goo ...

Expectations, Standards, and Women's Wrestling
Cageside Seats - over 3 years
The Diva's championship match between AJ Lee and Kaitlyn that took place at WWE Payback on June 16 in Chicago has earned a lot of praise from both fans and pundits alike. In the span of 10 minutes, they exceeded the expectations of many (including myself) and put on one of the better Diva's matches of late. Some even went so far as to call the match great and the second best match of the night. Throwing the word "great" out there is a step too far and demonstrates a major roadblock with why we don't have great women's wrestling in WWE -- our expectations and standards are just too damn low. So much of the praise and accolades for the match are tinged with the backhanded and ever present "for a Divas/women's match" qualifier. If we are judging AJ vs. Kaitlyn by the same standards that we would a men's match, it was simply decent and not much more than that. If it sounds like I am trying to denigrate women's wrestling, that is not the case. I am denigrating what WWE lam ...

Precap to TNA "Genesis" TONIGHT (Jan. 13) featuring Jeff Hardy vs. Austin Aries vs. Bobby Roode
Cageside Seats - about 4 years
Kim! ODB! Tessmacher! Mickie! Sky! Gauntlet Match! #1 Contender! Knockout Championship! Five lovely Knockouts will compete in a Gauntlet Match to earn the #1 Contendership to Tara's Knockout Championship. The odds on favorite to win would have been Mickie James, who returned to Impact Wrestling on Nov. 15. However, Velvet Sky made her return to the ring on Dec. 6 to the fan's great delight. With the Impact Zone in her corner, Sky seems to look like she will be raising the Knockout Championship above her head very shortly. It's a shame the Knockouts don't get enough screen time. Unlike the females in that other promotion, the Knockouts actually know how to wrestle, and can hold up a storyline on their own. These are actually very talented women, and their work should get more exposure. On the other hand, the only reason Sky probably most likely will take this whole thing is because she knows how to shake her cute ass as she enters the ring. It's a two steps forward, one ...

TNA Impact! Wrestling: Austin Aries Becoming the Future Main Event Star
Bleacher Report - over 4 years
The June 21 edition of "Open Fight Night" on TNA Impact! Wrestling began with a video recap of last week's episode. Hulk Hogan opens the show by coming to the ring. Hogan first addressed what happened to Sting last week. As Hogan is speaking, the crowd begins to chant his name. Hogan calls out Austin Aries for his answer on whether he will go for the glory or go broke. Aries, wearing his X Division title, comes forward and tells Hogan he put a great opportunity out there for him. Aries discusses the importance of the X Division title and came up with an idea on how to go about this. Aries says he is willing to relinquish the X Division title to face TNA Champion Bobby Roode if Hogan allows the next X Division title holder to get a shot at the World Title. Hogan accepts his proposal, but Roode suddenly hits the ring in frustration.  Roode tells Hogan he should be sitting in his office and that Aries' X Division title means nothing. He says Aries made a vital mistake. Aries says since ...

WWE Extreme Rules 2012 Results: Layla Defeats Nikki Bella to Win Divas Title
Bleacher Report - almost 5 years
At Extreme Rules 2012, Layla El made her surprising return to in-ring action and won the Divas Championship. Initially, Nikki Bella was scheduled to defend her title in a rematch against Beth Phoenix. But at the last minute, Eve Torres, the Executive Assistant to John Laurinaitis, informed the Glamazon that she is not medically cleared to compete and will be pulled from the match. This led Nikki to assume that she had the night off. However, Eve declared that she will defend her title against a mystery opponent (My money was on Kharma). Eve then added, "Don't worry. It's not Kharma." (Crap! Well, how about AJ?) The Bellas made their entrance and Nikki cut about a promo about how she will be the longest-reigning Divas Champion. Her sister Brie chimed in, stating that "they" will have a lengthy reign. Suddenly, the Lay-Cool music hits and out comes Layla El. The match starts, and Layla looks surprisingly good. I think she used a La Magistral pin variation at one point. Of course, ...

TNA Impact Wrestling Results (4/19)
Wrestling News Source - almost 5 years
Report by Stuart Carapola & PWinsider.com Bobby Roode comes out to start the show and address the fans. He says that he's still the World Champion and it feels so good, because he came out here several weeks ago saying he was going to beat James Storm in front of his friends, family, and friends in his own backyard of Nashville, and he made good on his promise. He gives James Storm credit because he promised that he was going to drill him with the Last Call, and he sure did hit him with it, but it caused the destruction of his dreams and his destiny because he still stands before us as the World Heavyweight Champion. He has defeated each and every hero thrown in his path: James Storm, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, and Sting, and as far as the champ is concerned, there's no heroes left for him to beat. Ken Anderson's music hits and here he comes! He says he'll beat Roode, take his title, and he won't need a beer bottle to do it. Roode says that while he's been sitting home in Green Bay for ...

TNA Impact Wrestling **SPOILERS** for 4/19
Wrestling News Source - almost 5 years
Below are the spoilers for the 4/19 edition of TNA Impact Wrestling: Credit: Travis Beaven & PWTorch.com I’m here in Orlando for Tuesday’s Impact taping. Advertised (and I mean this somewhat loosely) are RVD, Jeff Hardy, and Hulk Hogan. For those of you who have never attended, you basically get to hang out in a line under a roller coaster. Every now and then, something falls out of the pocket of one of the riders and hits a hapless taping attendee in the head. Hardcore! Some context: I’m part of the company that built PWTorch’s very fine mobile app (new version coming!). I’m a wrestling fan, but at this point a very passive viewer. The advent of DVR has eliminated the need for many a Teddy Long segment, as I’m positive many of you can appreciate. I appreciate good workrate or I appreciate good entertainment; generally I get one or the other, and more recently neither. Also, in the interest of full disclosure: I’ve never sat through a full TNA show before. Not because I’m a hater of ...

Spoilers for April 12, 2012 edition of TNA Impact, the go home show for Lockdown
Cageside Seats - almost 5 years
We're less than one week away from Lockdown! TNA taped the go home episode for their pay-per-view (PPV) last week but with all the hubbub in Florida being about WWE and WrestleMania 28, the spoilers -- courtesy of sPyWareInsider -- weren't leaked until recently. So what can you expect this Thursday from the stars of Impact, Cagesiders? Well, an old hardcore favorite makes his return and gets placed smack dab in the middle of the Bischoff family feud for one. Without saying precisely who it was, I can say he loves air-brushed spandex. Bully Ray goes one on one with AJ Styles and Austin Aries tangles with Christopher Daniels in what I hear was an excellent match. And of course, it wouldn't be a go home show without some kind of confrontation between the wrestlers in the main event. TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode and his Lockdown challenger James Storm meet face to face before Sunday's (April 15) show. Full spoilers after the jump! Mr. Anderson and G ...

TNA Impact Wrestling Results (4/5)
Wrestling News Source - almost 5 years
Report by Stuart Carapola & PWinsider.com We start off with a look back at last week when Hulk Hogan accepted the job as the new GM of Impact Wrestling, and we go to the Impact Zone where Dixie Cartner has called all the wrestlers out to the ring for a meeting as she again introduces our new GM. Hogan reiterates how he would have never taken the job back if it weren't for Sting watching his back and he thanks Dixie Carter for another chance, and he says that he met with Creative and they have a bunch of new segments that are going to be coming, but right now he has some Lockdown business to take care of. Hogan makes Matt Morgan vs Crimson for Lockdown, then says he's had a hard time figuring out who the #1 contender to Gail Kim ought to be, so tonight, we're going to have a Knockouts Challenge to determine who challenges Gail at Lockdown. There's one other thing he needs to handle right now, and he wants Eric Bischoff to come out right now. Ric Flair said Bischoff's not here and he ...

2 Title Changes At TNA’s No Surrender PPV
iflight - over 5 years
Two title changes took place Sunday night at No Surrender as Winter regained the Women’s Knockout Championship from Mickie James while Austin Aries beat Brian Kendrick to capture the X Division Championship. The title changes were forewarned prior to the event as a match line-up for the Sept. 23 TNA live event in Springfield, Illinois listed Aries as the X Division Champion and Winter as the Women’s Knockouts Champion. We reported both these title changes in our **SPOILER** report on Sunday afternoon. Robert Roode defeated Bully Ray via pinfall to win the Bound for Glory Series and earn a match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship next month at Bound for Glory. Roode beat Gunner via submission earlier in the show, tying Bully Ray’s 52-point total—Ray beat James Storm in the second match of the event. This set up the tiebreaker match between Roode and Ray. It obviously looks like Roode is in for a huge TNA push. Wrestling News

James would then have several confrontations with Bram over his actions towards her real life fiancé, Magnus. On the April 24 episode of Impact Wrestling, James announced her retirement from wrestling to focus on becoming a full-time mother, only to have James Storm talk her into having one more match. On the June 3 episode of Impact Wrestling, James declined an offer by Storm to join The Revolution, which resulted in him intentionally shoving her onto a train track in the storyline, which sparked controversy. This was done to write off James from television, as she had no more dates set with the company at the time. The storyline feud continued into the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2010 where James finally defeated McCool, in 20 seconds, to become a five-time Women's Champion.
More Details Hide Details Over the following couple of weeks, SmackDown consultant Vickie Guerrero was introduced into the rivalry, choosing to side with LayCool over James. On the February 26 episode of SmackDown, McCool used her rematch clause to face James for the Women's Championship, with Guerrero acting as special guest referee. After Guerrero slapped James, McCool pinned her to regain the title. On March 9, WWE.com announced that James had been diagnosed with a staph infection on her right knee, and that she would be out of action for three weeks. She returned on the March 22 episode of Raw, where alongside Kelly Kelly, she accompanied Eve Torres, Beth Phoenix and Gail Kim in their losing effort against McCool, Maryse and Layla, who had Vickie Guerrero and Alicia Fox in their corner. This set up a 10-Diva tag team match at WrestleMania XXVI, in which James made an unsuccessful in-ring return after Vickie pinned Kelly. James made her last appearance on Raw during a rematch, where her team was victorious. James' final match in WWE aired on the April 23 episode of SmackDown where she teamed with former long-time rival Beth Phoenix against LayCool in a losing effort when she was pinned by Layla. James was released from WWE one day earlier on April 22, having pre-taped her SmackDown match. According to James, WWE explained the decision as due to desiring to "move in a new direction with their women's division".

James re-entered the feud against Phoenix in mid-2008, where she and Kofi Kingston teamed up against Phoenix and Santino Marella at SummerSlam in a Winner Takes All tag team match for both the Women's and Intercontinental Championships, in which James and Kingston lost their titles to Phoenix and Marella.
More Details Hide Details After James lost the championship, she had two rematches for the title, but was unsuccessful in regaining it. Following an appearance in the 25-Diva battle royal at WrestleMania XXV, James began feuding with the WWE Divas Champion Maryse heading into Night of Champions on July 26. At the event, James defeated Maryse to win her first Divas Championship, becoming only the second Diva in history to have held both the Women's and Divas titles. Throughout the Summer, James successfully defended the title against Gail Kim and Beth Phoenix on episodes of Raw, and against Alicia Fox at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on October 4. Two weeks later on Raw, James lost the title to Jillian Hall after an approximate three month title reign. After the show, James was traded to the SmackDown brand for the first time in her career, due to a Diva trade made by Raw guest host Nancy O'Dell.

James would subsequently lose the Women's Championship to Melina on February 19 and, in continuation of their storyline feud, failed to regain the title during the first women's Falls Count Anywhere match in WWE history. During the finish of the match, James fell from the top turnbuckle and landed on her neck, which resulted in a rushed finish. James, however, was not seriously injured in the incident. The scripted feud between James and Melina was rekindled on April 2, when James interrupted and attacked Melina during her photo op on Raw. At a house show in Paris, France on April 24, James won her third Women's Championship during a triple threat match that also involved Victoria. Since James pinned Victoria, however, and not Melina, Jonathan Coachman announced that a rematch would take place immediately. James dropped the title to Melina, giving her the shortest Women’s Championship reign in WWE history. James later received a rematch for the title at Backlash, but was unsuccessful. After Backlash, James would only make sporadic appearances on television, wrestling occasionally in tag-matches and rarely in singles competition. On the November 26 episode of Raw, James defeated Melina in a number one contender's match for Beth Phoenix's Women's Championship, setting up a title match between the two at Armageddon, in which Phoenix retained the title.

The feud would come to an end on the June 26 episode of Raw, when James defeated Stratus in a Women's Championship match. The storyline is widely regarded as one of the best women's feuds in WWE history. James dropped the WWE Women's Championship on August 14 to Lita, after Lita hit James with the title belt. After the Women's Championship was vacated due to the retirement of Trish Stratus, James entered a tournament to determine the new champion. She defeated Victoria and Melina en route to the finals at Cyber Sunday, where she lost to Lita. James transitioned into a face after she and Lita wrestled in a series of matches in which Lita chose stipulations to hinder James' wrestling ability. The feud between James and Lita ended at Survivor Series, where James defeated Lita, in the latter's retirement match, to win her second Women's Championship.
Through the early part of 2006, James would attack Ashley Massaro several times due to Massaro calling her "crazy".
