By Mike Stone and Euan Rocha NEW YORK/TORONTO (Reuters) - Dominion Diamond Corp has been working with its long-time banker Rothschild & Co to find ways to boost shareholder value including a potential sale, according to a source familiar with the matter. The Canadian diamond miner, whose share price has been hurt by a weak diamond market, said Tuesday it looked forward to having an open dialogue with a group of investors led by hedge fund K2, who believe that Dominion's policies have unduly hurt its share price. In a securities filing on Monday, a group of investors led by Toronto-based K2 & Associates said they had requested for a meeting with Dominion's independent directors as the company's "share price has suffered excessively and unnecessarily as a result of misguided policies and missed opportunities." In a letter to the company's lead director, the group, which together owns a 5.4 percent stake in Dominion, said the company had so far failed to articulate a clear plan of ...

Maker Boys craft a new DIY business
San Francisco Chronicle - over 3 years

Little did Stone and McQuade expect that these hands-on maker workshops would soon eclipse their retail ambitions, giving rise to a new line of business and a new moniker: the Maker Boys. Some customers recommended the classes to their employers, and by May 2012 the Maker Boys were leading corporate team building classes in making candles, soap and terrariums for companies such as Yelp, Google and Kaiser. Repeat customersBy last autumn, demand for their workshops had grown to the point that the Maker Boys saw an opportunity to create complete project kits and related instructional videos. The board of education was set to vote May 7 on changes to the school calendar for the upcoming school year.  In the three options on the table, start time in August would have ranged from Aug. 1 to Aug. 13, which parents said would have impacted summer camp and vacation plans already in place. In 2010, school started Aug. 9. Each of the options would dismiss students from school one-hour early on Wednesdays. The DeKalb County School District Calendar Committee recommended Thursday to table the May 7 vote and instead "adopt a new balanced calendar for the 2013-2014 school year, one that includes more instructional opportunity for students throughout the year."
