Lnyx Win WNBA Title: Maya Moore Leads Minnesota To Sweep Of Atlanta Dream (VIDEO/PHOTOS)
Huffington Post Sports - over 3 years
DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Maya Moore scored 23 points, Rebekkah Brunson had 15 points and 12 rebounds and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Atlanta Dream 86-77 on Thursday night to win their second WNBA title in three years. Tiffany Hayes finished with 20 points and Alex Bentley had 18 in reserve roles for Atlanta, which was swept in the best-of-5 finals for the third time in four years. Moore was playing at the Gwinnett Arena for the first time since leading nearby Collins Hill H.S. to the last of three consecutive state titles in 2007, and she had strong support from the suburban Atlanta crowd. Moore, the WNBA rookie of the year three years ago, was a big reason why the Lynx won their first championship in 2011. This time, she was named the finals MVP as Minnesota became the second team to go unbeaten in seven playoff games and win a championship, joining the 2010 Seattle Storm. Lindsay Whalen scored 15 points and Seimone Augustus had 14 for the Lynx, who improved to 14-6 on the road th ...

Lessons From Durant vs. Wade
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Last week, I had five minutes to interview Kevin Durant. The Oklahoma City Thunder forward is one of the NBA's best players and according to Ben Golliver and Rob Mahoney at SI.com, he's the 2nd best in the league behind LeBron. Durant was on a promotional tour for Degree's DO:MORE campaign, so for a few hours on September 24th, he hung out in New York City as the PR company ran him through its version of Paul Westhead's "System." A few moments before taping, I was asked by the producer not to bring up his fiancé (Monica Wright of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx), Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports (his new agency) or his former teammate James Harden. My response: "Ha, no problem." None of those three topics were on my mind. Since I had been following the release of SI.com's Top 100 players and since the Top 10 came out that day, I thought asking their #2 about the final installment may elicit a thoughtful response, something I've become accustomed to with Durant. Contrary to what Dan Patrick thinks ...

Vogue: The Sports World's Best Couples
Huffington Post - over 3 years
by Evelyn Crowley, Vogue Insofar as dating is a sport, pro athletes bring some key advantages to the playing field. They know how to be true teammates, i.e. sacrificing their own needs for the greater good of the relationship. But alas, they often pair up with other athletes, dashing the hopes of those of us who lack chiseled physiques and superior hand-eye-coordination skills. "It's very hard for me to relate to someone who doesn't do sports at a high level," explains Olympic Alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, discussing her romance with golf titan Tiger Woods in the August issue of Vogue.
