Want To Drink Like A Famous Person This Weekend? Here's How Jennifer Lawrence Does It.
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Happy Friday! Welcome to Drink Like A Famous Person, where we let you bring out your fabulous side in the name of some well-earned R&R. Eschew your regular habits this weekend by drinking like... Jennifer Lawrence! And what, pray tell, does America's Sweetheart like to sip after another long day of being awesome? Budweiser. Guys, of course Jennifer Lawrence drinks Budweiser. Are you even surprised? Could you see our girl popping Dom Pérignon with her entourage, taking swigs out of monogrammed crystal flutes on some Los Angeles rooftop? No and nope. In a 2013 interview with Conan O'Brien, Lawrence recalled the tale of watching her father shed a tear after her filming a "Silver Linings Playbook" scene with Robert De Niro. And yet -- at least how J-Law tells it -- Mr. Lawrence's display of emotion was not a reaction to his daughter's stellar performance in a major moment of her career, but her choice of beer. "It's because I pop a Budweiser," she explained. Apparently a ...

She Had An 'Unhappy' Childhood
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Jennifer Lawrence sat down with Vogue to discuss paparazzi and the super "weird" past that made her the lovable star she is today. It turns out America's dream best friend had a pretty "unhappy" childhood. "I was a weirdo," she said, candidly. “I’ve always just had this weird anxiety. I hated recess. I didn’t like field trips. Parties really stressed me out. And I had a very different sense of humor." The "Hunger Games" star shares a few quirky stories -- for example, one about the time she thought it would be really funny to jump out the emergency exit of a moving bus. Yet, her experiences are less light-hearted than the movie star we've come to love. Lawrence was placed into therapy and heavily medicated for quite some time. In fact, her issues didn't really clear up until she left high school and properly pursued acting at the age of 15. Once she found something she was "good at," her parents saw a major change. ‘We’re paying for therapy and all this medication, ...

Warren Adler: The Aspiring Writer
Huffington Post - over 3 years
For the aspiring writer in the middle to late 20th century the goal, however mythical and fantastical, was to write The Great American Novel. What this meant was that we passionately burned to be recognized as a kind of literary phenomenon, an "artist writer" who had created a novel out of his or her imagination so compelling, so blazing with truth, impact and insight, and fashioned into a story with characters so memorable and important that it encapsulated the sweep and meaning of the universal human condition. It was a mission, a dedicated and inspired artistic endeavor with the goal of attracting vast numbers of intelligent readers. The traditional image of the writer in the garret, lost in the vapors of his imagination, fashioning his parallel world for the benefit of all mankind, was as accurate a description as one could devise of the dedicated writer's toil and sacrifice in the service of literature. We had our literary Gods to emulate, our role models, livin ...

Student Schedules for 2012-2013 Year to Be Released by Early June
- almost 5 years
Schedules for the 2012-2013 school year will be made available to students by the end of the first week of June, according to assistant principal James Farnen. Along with a homeroom meeting during which students will be given hard copies of their schedules, they will be sent out in the mail, as well as posted on the Home Access Center. “It’s going to be the same format as last year,” Farnen said. He said that the master schedule—which takes into consideration student course requests, budget restraints, and department approval—is near completion. Once this is made, each student will be “pushed through” the system and be assigned a schedule. “We want all of our kids to have an official schedule in hand, with all their conflicts worked out by the time they leave school at the end of June,” Farnen said, adding that the guidance department will eventually be available for students to clear up any potential scheduling conflicts. “We’re hoping to provide the best possible schedules, and ...

Anticipate your financing needs
Financial Post - almost 5 years
There is a simple explanation for why small business owners are less satisfied with their banking services than consumers, says Shane Lawrence, assistant vice-president for business banking at TD Canada Trust in Toronto. “As complexity goes up, satisfaction lowers. That’s pretty universal,” he says. When the criteria being judged are simple, high satisfaction rankings are easier to come by, he notes. “Take a Starbucks, for example. Your judging criteria are simple: you want a cup of coffee that tastes good and is hot. As your needs grow with banking, instead of measuring service by two or three things, you might have 30 or more.” Much of the frustration boils down to a matter of processes, Mr. Lawrence says. “As your banking needs get more complicated, so does our due diligence. We want to know you’ve thought through your needs and have a plan. That gives us a sense of confidence you know where you’re going.” Related Small businesses dissatisfied with banking services H ...

CCM suffers another blow
The Citizen - almost 5 years
By Mussa Mwangoka The Citizen Correspondent Sumbawanga. It was song and dance for the opposition Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) yesterday when the court here annulled the Sumbawanga Urban parliamentary election results, dealing the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) yet another blow in the power stakes. Chadema supporters went wild, singing and dancing in the streets. The Rukwa regional police commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Isuto Mantage, had to use a loudspeaker to restore calm. Chadema’s candidate in the botched election, Mr Nobert Yamsebo, said such judgements would inspire continued trust in the Judiciary.  In the original results, CCM candidate Khalfan Hilaly Aeshi had 17,328 votes while Mr Yamsebo garnered 17,132. In his 68-page ruling in Mr Yamsebo’s election petition, Justice Mmali said the election was held against a backdrop of corruption and an environment in some parts of the constituency that was not conducive to free campaigns. Mr Yamsebo had ...

Four Paws Up: Heidi Reviews ‘Darling Companion’
Studio City Patch - almost 5 years
I am not sure a dog has ever reviewed a movie, but it’s me, Heidi, and I’m doing it because there is a dog like me in this movie, it’s called Darling Companion, opening today!  You should want to know my opinion because I am a dog, a companion and also darling. I am doing this my own self, but I asked Diane for some hints on how because she used to review movies for the Detroit Free Press, a big newspaper they have in that city where’s she’s from. She told me first of all that I should stop using so many exclamation points even though I love them; they feel like wagging my tail in print! (Oops, there goes one, and my tail too). She also told me my review should be about the movie, not all the fun stuff that happened to me at the premiere screening I went to Wednesday night at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.  (I went there once before for the Golden Collar Awards and met Uggie, the famous dog from The Artist).  She also said I shouldn’t tell what happens at the end, and I shoul ...
