5 Reasons Sony Doesn't Need To Remake 'The Craft'
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
In completely unnecessary remake news, Sony is remaking the 1996 cult-classic "The Craft." The original movie starred Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True as a group of misfit teens who practice witchcraft for personal gain, before everything ultimately spirals out of control. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has tapped filmmaker Leigh Janiak to write and direct the film, which really has no reason to be remade for the following reasons: 1. The film was the pinnacle of '90's fashion. The clothes are half of the reason to watch the "The Craft" in the first place. 2. It's a perfect primer for the timeless sleepover game Light As Feather, Stiff As A Board. What? You never tried it? 3. High school bullies haven't changed in the last 19 years. Technology may be different, but being mean is a constant. 4. This: 5. Fairuza Balk as Nancy. Seriously, who are they going to cast in the remake? Selena Gomez? ...

So fetch! Mean Girls actress Lacey Chabert is a knockout in the November issue of Maxim magazine. Stripping down to a lacy gray bra and matching boyshorts for the sexy photo spread, the Party of Five alum shows off her flat abs, lean legs, and major cleavage. Her cover shot is pretty eye-catching, too. Anne Margaret Daniel: F. Scott Fitzgerald and Hollywood: Writing for the Movies, 1937-1940
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) and Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) have lunch. (Courtesy Warner Brothers) With the new movie version of The Great Gatsby getting more attention by the moment, and since I positively reveled in its New York premiere last week, I've been thinking about F. Scott Fitzgerald's own career as a writer -- of novels, certainly, but also of screenplays. In 1937, Fitzgerald went to work in Hollywood. He had never, despite the flop of his play The Vegetable in 1923, quite given up on the idea of drama. The stage had failed him, and his first trip to Hollywood as a screenwriter in 1927 was a fiasco. But Fitzgerald loved plays, acting (and actresses), and writing dialogue. He was not the first prominent writer, nor would he be the last, to pay his bills writing and doctoring screenplays. William Faulkner, Dorothy Parker, Raymond Chandler, Larry McMurtry, Tom Stoppard and many others have drawn paychecks, and the occasional Oscar, from their work in "t ...

Whatever Happened To Macy Gray?
Huffington Post - about 4 years
You know those stars who blow up for all of about five minutes -- or five years, if they're lucky -- and then disappear into the ether? The ones whom you're reminded of only upon seeing a late-night commercial for "Totally R&B" or gasping with excitement as they pop up on the latest episode of "30 Rock"? The Huffington Post has been scouring the Web for juice on some of your old favorites, from pop-music princess Mandy Moore to "Cruel Intentions" heartthrob Ryan Phillippe. Find out what these and plenty of other stars are actually up to. Believe it or not, most of them are indeed working. (We didn't believe it either.) MUSIC: Ginuwine You might not be aware, but R&B slow-jam aficionado Ginuwine is still making music. He released a greatest hits album in 2006, and his most recent effort, 2011’s “Elgin,” debuted at a crisp No. 30 on the Billboard 200. Still, Ginuwine hasn’t been able to top his 2001 smash single “Differences,” which spent four weeks atop the U ...

US Magazine article Actual Shark Tank: The Absolute Worst Spin-Offs We Could Possibly Think of
Huffington Post - over 4 years
It's getting weird in TV spinoff season. Fox just took "The Voice," stripped it of its talent and its capital V, then replaced it with abs and sadness. It's called "The Choice," it's mildly entertaining, and it's basically a Bat Signal for whichever Mayan God controls the apocalypse. He can now press the big red button without any semblance of regret. But we thought we could do worse. We've come up with a list of the worst possible spin-offs of currently airing TV shows. And, yes, they're all considerably more watchable than The Choice. In most of these shows, at least the terrible people die at the end. Actual Shark Tank Entrepreneurial inventors who've figured out how to build a better mousetrap bring their product and their pitch (and more than a little moxie) to a panel of investors who, upon carefully considering the pitches, releases a trap door through which contestants plunge to their imminent demise in an actual shark tank. Once in the tank, as the inve ...

Scene desk picks: Musicals to hang your hat on
Oregon Daily Emerald - almost 5 years
We all love music and movies, but for some reason, musicals remain underrated. Sure, some of them are awful, and they’re all pretty hard to believe, but some of them are fantastic. Bursting out into song might seem silly, but doesn’t it also look a little fun? Of course, in real life most of our impromptu songs would be off-key and full of filler lyrics. In any case, check out this week’s picks — our favorite musicals. “Singin’ in the Rain,” recommended by Rebecca Sedlak This light and fun 1952 musical depicts Hollywood stars transitioning from silent to talkie films of the 1920s. Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) is a silent-film star with humble roots who has made it big in Hollywood by starring in countless films with his leading lady Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). But the 1927 release of “The Jazz Singer” — the first talking picture — changes the game in Hollywood as the public clamors for talkies. The studio wants to transition Don and Lina into the new technology, but Lina’s squeaky voice ...
