According to Rose, she last saw Stahl on May 9 and believes he was in the Skid Row neighborhood near downtown Los Angeles at that time. However, friends of his told E! Online that they saw him the morning of May 10 carrying boxes into another friend's apartment in West Hollywood. While he had been known to disappear in the past, it was usually for no longer than a day. He never carried a cell phone, so he could not be tracked that way.

On May 14, Rose reported Stahl missing. Four days later, at 10 p.m. May 18, Stahl sent an email to his friends saying he would be in drug rehabilitation for the next 30 days. Rose said she was relieved but skeptical that he really was in rehab.
