The two stars, who split in 2014, brought 5-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday night, with the whole family rocking coordinated outfits. Carey and Monroe donned matching striped getups, while Moroccan and his dad sported orange outfits, matching the award show carpet’s iconic hue. They struck some fierce poses for the cameras throughout the night. Carey and Cannon have remained amicable since their split, notably when it comes to co-parenting their kids. Cannon has showed up at Carey’s Halloween party with the kids over the years, and opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about co-parenting with his ex in 2015. “We make the kids the No. 1 priority, for them to see their parents together and for everybody to get along and have a great time,” he said. Hollywood Needs More ‘Hidden Figures’ To Fix Its Diversity Problem
Huffington Post - 2 months
After I finished watching the first trailer for Hidden Figures a few months ago, I immediately sent the link to my mom. My mom, who happens to be a black female computer scientist, responded back and told me that she had tears in her eyes after watching it. She told me that she couldn’t wait to see it with my aunt, a black woman with an engineering degree who also worked in computer science, and my grandmother, who worked hard to guarantee that both of them (twins, mind you) went to college. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up too. As I grew up, I didn’t understand why my parents made our whole family go see every critically-lauded movie about black people. I also didn’t fully understand why my parents were so adamantly against me watching shows like Good Times. My mom got mad when I showed her an All That sketch where Kenan Thompson and Nick Cannon were playing rude female cashiers at a convenience store. Then The Help came out. It was a high-profile movie about segregation, a ...

Lessons From Mariah Carey On How To Shrug Off The Bullsh*t
Huffington Post - 3 months
We all saw it last night and if we didn't see it live, we watched the replay, because all of our friends were talking about it. Yes, Mariah Carey, coveted celebrity superstar, messed up a set and walked off the stage like she was under the influence. Look, I'm not judging her, I was under the influence when she performed, too! As soon as the bit ended, I got on Twitter. I knew what was about to happen. MC was about to get roasted! Like always, Twitter did not disappoint. I saw tweets blaming the Russians for hacking her show, the usual Chrissy Teigan memes and some of the funniest fake quotes I've ever read.  Much like most of the folks on Twitter, I was waiting for Mariah's PR team to come out and clean it all up. Turned out, MC sent her own text and beautifully ended all the drama in less than 140 characters.  Shit happens Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here's to making more headlines in 2017 pic.twitter.com/0Td8se57jr — Mariah Carey (@MariahCarey) Janu ...

This Blind Item Helped Launch Kim Kardashian's Career 10 Years Ago
Huffington Post - 3 months
The Kardashians do their best to make sure everyone struggles to keep up with them, but it almost feels like the family was working overtime in 2016 to not only maintain their relevancy, but also to ensure pop culture domination.  This year alone, their seemingly never-ending drama included, but wasn’t limited to, divorces, feuds, nude selfies, health issues, a horrific robbery and a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump. That’t a lot to pack in one year, especially when it was only a decade ago that a blind item arguably helped launch Kim Kardashian’s entire career. Yes, Kim Kardashian is so much more than a sex tape, but have you ever wondered where the seedlings for the rumor that started it all began? Ten years ago this Christmas Day, AOL Black Voices writer Jawn Murray ran a blind item about an R&B singer who was shopping an X-rated home video he had made with his ex-girlfriend to adult entertainment companies. The item is, of course, referring to the tape that ...
