'American Hero' glides smoothly through offbeat Big Easy tale
LATimes - about 1 year
"American Hero" may seem like an awfully generic title, but it suits this shaggy dog fable set in a post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans just fine. Writer-director Nick Love brings an enticingly quirky sensibility to the kaleidoscopic action, infusing his offbeat tale with raucous charm and a big,...

Mariah Carey's Black and White Plaid Gown: Love It or Hate It?
US Magazine - about 4 years
It's a plaid, mad world. Just before Christmas, on Dec. 22, Mariah Carey was spotted in Aspen, Colo., making the rounds, according to the Daily Mail, at luxury stores like Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren, all while wearing a floor-length, black and white plaid gown. PHOTOS: 12 Worst Dressed Stars of 2012 The fashion-loving singer is in town with husband Nick Cannon, 32, and their adorable 19-month-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, for the holidays. Carey dressed appropriately in winterwear for wholesome family activities like sledding, but for some reason, plucked the dressy plaid number from her closet for the shopping excursion. PHOTOS: Mariah and Nick's Love Story Carey topped off the look with a wide, corset-inspired belt and fancy chandelier earrings. Tell Us. Do you love or hate Mariah's shopping outfit?   This article originally appeared on Usmagazine.com: Mariah Carey's Black and White Plaid Gown: Love It or Hate It?

'Great Gatsby' trailer: Jazz Age excess with a hip-hop flourish
LATimes - over 4 years
This post has been corrected. See the note at the bottom for details. The first trailer for Baz Luhrmann's star-studded adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" has been released, and it features many of the Australian filmmaker's hallmarks, including spectacular visuals (the film will be in 3-D), modern music in an anachronistic setting and a lead performance by Leonardo DiCaprio. The trailer opens with a voice-over setting the scene ("New York, 1922") and a Jay-Z and Kanye West song setting the mood ("No Church in the Wild," from the duo's "Watch the Throne" album). The Roaring '20s are in full swing, with flappers in sparkling dresses and gents in sharp tuxedos spilling champagne and dancing under falling confetti. A quick montage of people asking about DiCaprio's mysterious title character sets up one of the story's central questions: Who is Jay Gatsby? Among those who want to know are Tobey Maguire, playing Nick Carraway (the book's narrator); and Carey Mulligan, playing Gatsby's s ...

Mariah Carey Suffers Wardrobe Misstep in Too-Tight Spandex Jumpsuit
US Magazine - almost 5 years
Showing it off in spandex! Mariah Carey, who flaunts her toned tummy and 30-pound weight loss story on May's Shape cover, was eager to show off her slimmer figure in Austria Sunday. Unfortunately, the skin-tight, red spandex jumpsuit the star chose for her appearance at the Top of the Mountain Concert in Ischgl left nothing to the imagination and hugged every one of her curves and body parts. But despite taking the stage in the ill-fitting, Fashion Police-destined ensemble, the 42-year-old singer was all smiles and in good spirits for her fans. PHOTOS: Incredible post-baby bodies "Thank you to all the fans who came out to the show! I hope you liked Underneath The Stars which I did especially for the lambs.. LYM!" she tweeted following her performance. Her performance isn't the only event the star celebrated over the weekend. She and her hubby Nick Cannon, 31, also renewed their wedding vows -- an annual tradition for the couple -- in honor of their fourth wedding anni ...
