Walking Dead: The Potential Downside of a Killer Ep
Huffington Post - 4 months
Advisory: no spoilers on victims. As Walking Dead fans start to exhale after Sunday's brutal season 7 opener, here's an incidental random thought: It may also have been the moment at which the show peaked. Not creatively, because no one knows where the story will go, but as a cultural phenomenon - because Sunday was the payoff of something the show did so well that it may never be able to do anything that effectively again. Specifically, it may never again create extended suspense as powerful as giving fans six months to guess whose head the evil Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) pounded into gazpacho with his trusty baseball bat Lucille. For anyone who somehow missed it, AMC's The Walking Dead ended season 6 last spring with Negan capturing most of the warriors we have come to know over six seasons. Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Glen (Steven Yuen), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Carl (Chandler Riggs), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and ot ...

Exploring a big, beautiful, zombie-free country on 'Ride With Norman Reedus'
LATimes - 9 months
The AMC reality series “Ride With Norman Reedus” appears to be an entirely new sub-genre of television: fan-driven, multiple-niche, demographic crossover. Reedus, of course, plays fan favorite Daryl Dixon on “The Walking Dead,” a character who, as Reedus points out during the “Ride With” pilot,...

Walking Dead Spoiler: A Few People Are Still Alive!
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Sunday night's midseason premiere of The Walking Dead (AMC, 9 p.m.) features many zombies, the inception of countermeasures and a reminder that it is not smart to mess with Darryl. It's a fast-moving hour, and AMC has thoughtfully asked that the "fan experience" be respected, that is, not many of the details be revealed. The request seems fair, so we'll leave that part up to the massive Internet Walking Dead industry seemingly dedicated to nothing else. In the broader picture, it's fair to say that as we reach the second half of the sixth season, the show's quality remains at a satisfyingly high level. While few shows reach this point without sometimes feeling as if they're gasping for air, or for stories, TWD has maintained its intensity and character interest remarkably well. It helps that outside of a few core characters, the show has had a high churn rate. That continues in Sunday's episode, which features several lineup changes. New characters at their best p ...

Headline Hangover: Trump, The Walking Dead and More
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Welcome to Headline Hangover -- my weekly take on some of the ridiculous local, national and global news stories. Here's a look back at some of the headlines that caught our attention for the week of December 6, 2015: Politics (image via kfor1240.com) On Monday, Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump called for the banning of Muslims from the United States, which sparked comparisons to FDR's internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. However, unlike FDR, Donald Trump seems to be disabled from the neck up. Entertainment (image via cinemablend.com) Norman Reedus, the actor who plays Darryl Dixon on AMC's The Walking Dead, was bit on the chest by a fan at a Walking Dead convention in New Jersey this past weekend. ...It was later explained to Chris Christie that it was not called a "meat and greet." Side Note: No, governor, it's 'meet' as in "let's meet to talk about covering up this whole bridge debacle." Weather (image via weathe ...

8 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs You Missed On 'The Walking Dead'
Huffington Post - about 1 year
You know why Morgan was so concerned that someone took his peanut butter protein bar? Because "Walking Dead" is all about the details. (And peanut butter bars are delicious.) There are a few months before the show comes back from midseason break in February, so for all of you looking to catch up or binge on old episodes in the meantime, here are some Easter eggs you might've missed that make the show even better. 1. The titles have been decaying each season. Image: SkyBound Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd confirmed to The Huffington Post at "The Walking Dead" fan premiere that the titles decompose more each season. Hurd tells us, "For the observant fan, it’s an Easter egg. We are reflecting the world. The world is more decayed, the walkers are considerably more decayed, so it really is reflective of that." 2. Eastman wore a "Save Terrapins" shirt after Enid ate a turtle. Though showrunner Scott Gimple seemed to deny the Easter egg in a message to "Ta ...

'The Walking Dead' Hints That Daryl Dixon Will Die In Season 6
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Oh no! Not a-Glenn! (Warning! "Walking Dead" spoilers! There is no sanctuary!) "The Walking Dead" has had us worrying about Glenn actor Steven Yeun for most of Season 6, but that just may have been a distraction from who we should really be worried about: Norman Reedus. In the show's midseason finale on Sunday--Episode 8, "Start To Finish"--we saw walkers take over Alexandria and different groups inside scramble to stay alive. Andrew Lincoln actually dropped the script after reading Episode 9, he told The Huffington Post, so it appears our previous predictions about Carl, Ron and Jessie will happen when the show returns, since those characters made it out of the episode okay. What we weren't counting on was Daryl, Sasha and Abraham getting into trouble, and with one word the show may have sealed Daryl's fate. The evidence Daryl will die: Image: Tumblr In the "Walking Dead" prologue that aired after the episode, Sasha, Daryl and Abraham get caught by a ...

The Walking Dead: The Heart Wins, the Head Loses
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Glenn is still a Houdini. Surviving by his escape artistry previously mentioned in my Huffpost October 30, 2015 blog titled, "The Walking Dead: Michonne, a Leader Exemplar," about season 6 episode 3. The heart won. Although shortly after the season 6 episode 3, titled, "Thank You," had ushered an avalanche of mixed reactions from both fans and critics, the recent airing of the resolution episode 7 titled, "Heads Up," also brought on equally the same. Even so, one fan of The Walking Dead while appearing as a guest with fellow guest Gale Anne Hurd exec. Producer both on Talking Dead, Ken Jeong, actor, comedian and former doctor, was nonetheless very satisfied with the storyline. When asked by host Chris Hardwick what he thought about Glenn's storyline, the actor said he was very pleased. Then Ken Jeong followed by saying that with other shows so often they will let things suspend at the very last minute of an episode, and then go into a hiatus, presumably till next season.
