The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful is open for business again, and this time it will feature a few new guests. Richard Gere, David Strathairn and Tamsin Greig ("Episodes") have officially checked into "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2," which Fox Searchlight Pictures reveals has started filming in India. Gere and the others join returning stars Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie and Ronald Pickup for the sequel. In it, Sonny (Patel) is overwhelmed by the hotel's expansion, while Evelyn and Douglas (Dench and Nighy, respectively) explore their new relationship and Madge (Imrie) must choose between two eligible bachelors. All the while, crotchety Muriel (Smith) proves to be everyone's confidant in her role as co-manager of the hotel. Everything is further complicated by the arrival of Guy (Gere) and Lavinia (Greig), who must adapt to the hotel's limited vacancy. No release date is set for "Marigold Hotel 2," which h ...

WGA Nominees Announced
Huffington Post - about 4 years
The Writers Guild Awards nominations have been announced, and "Argo," "Lincoln," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Life of Pi" are among the honorees. The Writers Guild of America selected both original and adapted screenplays for its awards. "Argo" (by Chris Terrio), "Lincoln" (by Tony Kushner) and "Life of Pi" (by David Magee) were joined in the adapted screenplay category by "Silver Linings Playbook" (by David O. Russell) and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (by Stephen Chbosky). The scripts for "Beasts of the Southern Wild" (by Lucy Alibar and Behn Zeitlin), "Les Miserables" (by William Nicholson) and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (by Ol Parker), all assumed Oscar contenders in the category, were not eligible for WGA Awards this year because the scripts were written outside the union's regulations. Review: Your Parents Are Going to Love ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’
Film School Rejects - almost 5 years
Your parents probably don’t want to go to The Avengers this weekend (and that’s okay!) but audiences can do far worse for themselves than to take a quick cinematic trip to John Madden‘s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. While a film about a pack of retired Brits heading off to live in a swank retirement resort in India that, surprise!, turns out to be a rundown old hotel might sound like the most boring and narrowly appealing film of the year, Madden’s film is actually consistently delightful and charming, with enough characters and plot points to engage just about any viewer. Running just over two hours, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is able to tackle issues big (homophobia, arranged marriage) and small (there are too many flies in my rundown retirement hotel room!), and despite a few moments that feel far too obvious, Madden and his cast have crafted a lovely film with unexpected mass appeal. Madden whips right through introductions to all the future hotel residents within the fil ...

Review: 'Marigold Hotel' offers safe escape
Seattle Pi - almost 5 years
Review: 'Marigold Hotel' offers safe escape Handsome as the film is from John Madden, who directed Dench to her supporting-actress Oscar for "Shakespeare in Love," it too often spells out too much, and features painfully literal symbolism like a bird taking flight at just the right time. There's also Graham (Wilkinson), a burned-our high court judge with fond memories of India from his youth; Muriel (Smith), a cranky former housekeeper in need of a hip replacement who doesn't even bother to hide her racism; the bickering married couple Douglas (Nighy) and Jean (Penelope Wilton), who are miserable in their new assisted-living community; Madge (Celia Imrie), who'd rather be out hunting for a rich husband than taking care of her grandchildren; and Norman (Ronald Pickup), who's similarly been looking for love in all the wrong places. Upon arrival, though, they find the place is empty and falling apart, despite the best efforts of Sonny (Dev Patel of "Slumdog Million ...
